My Mercury Grey S2 *E834 DGY* - 05/11/05
Seeing everyone else's thread, it made me want to stick a few photos up of my poor old car
Currently without a bottom end, she's been sat at the end of the driveway since February, I really need to get my finger out my bum.
I actually just put my finger in my bum to test this.
It's quite pleasant.
Anyway, bought in April 2004 at auction, the car was pretty fooked
not many panels matched and the engine was cutting out all over the place. The bonnet was new, but still matt black

As far as I could see [and not knowing much either way] the engine was standard, the shocks were konis, the wheels are 16" BK Racing and the exhaust is some weird make that I still have the receipt for, called something heroic like "Tiger bomb" I'll check... but it sounded good
[look at that thuggish england plate too
that was changed sharpish
]

The interior was standard 88 spec with a collapsed passenger seat which was straight out to be fixed

Unfortunately whilst out, it showed up a MINGING damp patch due to a leaky battery tray, 2 days of fibreglass and I tried to fuck it up even more

The interior was stripped out and treated to a going over with a wallpaper steamer

Strangely, even after the awesome job I did making a boat hull out of fibreglass in the engine bay, the battery tray was still leaking
so it was taken to a our local man to have a new one fitted, fooking top job he did too

Pic of me and the old man overhauling the brakes [braided hoses now!!! after 3... WOOOoooOOOoooo
]. A fine figure of a man.

And up on stands:

With the interior back in, it was time to focus on the bodywork.....

ooh no it wasn't
The engine was sorted with some fuel regulator thing and the old man fixed it so she purred [a motor trader now, but a mechanic by trade, working for Sterling Moss' race team when he was younger
]. More about that later....
SO TO THE PAINT. The Vinmeister wa let loose on the beauty with strict instructions to be as cheap as possible
trade rates rock
I think it was only the roof he DIDN'T paint and he did a bloody good job, my S2 was starting to look like the Mercury Grey thing I wanted as a 17 year old driving round in a 1.3 L

With a new Nomad boost gauge, I enjoyed nearly 1 day driving around with nearly 3 psi
a trip out with Ballin showed that the car wasn't boosting at all so I booked myself in with the master, Karl norris
A stage 1 set-up later [chip, live run and a -34 actuator] and I was driving back down the M40 with a grin on my face like I was getting noshed off
Finding an OMP 6 point cage for sale, the plans started to develop, I re stripped the interior, fitted some nicer 90 spec seats, harnesses and tidied up the engine bay. As far as I was concerned the car was done for a while
Even got a go on Engine Advantages Dyno, making 160 bhp + 210 lb/ft torque at 15 PSi
and this is how she stood:

Unfortunately, the engine had always had a crankcase issue and that was highlighted on a sever blast through Bracknell then onto the M4 to get sex with a fat bird
The damage was done and although I still got my end away, the bottom end had finally let go, difficult to see in these pics as the engine is now rear mounted and I couldn;t be arsed to open the boot
but the block is pitted to fuck [would need liners in each bore if I was gonna rebuild this one
]

I like head.

One of the pistons crumbled so much it was only the vacuum cleaner that could save it
this one [number 3] is a little bit fooked too

And so she stands, ready and waiting for the new engine [yet to be bought/built/borrowed/stolen
] probably need welding or some other shit to get it through an MOT though
