Default Whats this? - running probs

Anyone got an idea what this is, or what its actually supposed to be for?

by what it has written on it im led to believe it should be for the central locking but problems have arisen!

Car hasnt been used or started for just over 14 months now, after having new loom and various other bits fitted of late yesterday eve came the day to start the car, took a while but it started and ran albeit a tad lumpy.

started again this morn and had it running as smooth as ever after checking engine connections, and adjusting a few minor items.

turned it all off and left it about an hour and when i went to try and re-start it again it didnt even attempt to crank, fuel pump didnt prime and other than the dash board lights coming on everything seemed to be completely dead!!

when turning the ignition key off there was now a very loud relay type clicking under the dash, after dropping the fuse box etc out and tracing this noise we came across the little box pictured clicking away, disconnected middle plug and the fuel pump primed immediatly - trid to start the car and hey presto it cranked over and eventually fired up, running a bit lumpy again, plugged it back in and the car was as dead again.

now removed this box completely and everything appears to work and function correctly, car starts but takes about 20seconds of cranking before it fires into life.

Just seem a bit puzzled by this, thisbox has always been plugged in before and never had a problem with the car.

Can anyone help or shine any light onto this??

oh, and its tucked up in the drivers footwell right into the inner wing behind the fuse box etc!

Cheers

Kelvin

I'm guessing (it is late!) that it may be connected to the double locking alarm system (Std Ford) try with it plugged back in and unlock drivers door with key first?? Any funny flashing red LED's on the std EsCos clock?

ill have a go at that in the morning cheers Bill.

will have to fit the clock back in to see if it has an LED flashing.

just thinking it could make sense as i did confuse myself earlier with locking and unlocking the car as the battery has been disconnected for a year and ive still been working in the car and locking/unlocking it frequently

But can this cause that much of a problem, ive unlocked the car many atime in the pastbefore realising ive not dissarmed the alarm.

Fingers crossed

Like I say Kel, it's just a guess as the std fit Ford alarm works via the door locks - is the siren horn disconnected, as that pamps when activated/deactivated to save you refitting the clock?

Hope it don't sidetrack you, but worth 10 minutes I suppose, just in case?

Thats for the central locking and the standard alarm/immobiliser my girlfriend had exactly the same problem plug it back in and just unplug the plug nearst to the bulkhead (thats the one for the alarm) just mean's the standard ford alarm won't work anymore.
