Cars built or used after Aug 1992 had cat's fitted by law. If the car can achieve a pass without a cat, then it's not a requirement to have it fitted, but obviously the MOT for cat' year cars is more stringent.
i thought these mots were all hooked up to computers now so there was no way around the emissions check? as if you leave it too long it times out and the mot fails??
My car was MoT'd yesterday, as I drove off I checked if they'd fixed the horn, seeing as I told them it was faulty when I dropped it off. And nope, horn still don't work, long live Britain...
My september 1992 escos without cat passed the cat test only last week - Just.
Although I did play with the map a bit before hand.
I was told ALL cars sold with a CAT as original fitted after AUGUST 1992
has to have a WORKING cat to pass an MOT test.
The complicated law goes, that any new car that is registered after 01.08.92 has to have a cat unless the build date is within a 6 month period prior to 01.08.92 (01.02.92-31.07.92)
Eg. I had a Mk V 130psi XR3i which was registered 30.09.92 and had a Mongoose exh on it. The build date of it was February '92 so I didn't legally need a cat.
