Default Brakes!

Right been under my s2 all day removing most of the rear end, so as i can change the chassis rails, while im doing this i wana sort the brake aswell!

First of all i wana remove the abs, can i use the pipes and master cylinder of a xr3i wiv no abs, as i think my m8 is striping 1 at the mo!

Second, the "load apportioning valve",i've heard these where only fitted on cars wiv abs, if so is it poss to loose it and just use the setup from the xr3i?

yes mate, use all the xr3i gear.


Originally the brake lines ran from the master cylinder to the modulators and then to the brakes. What you need to do is basically by-pass the modulators.

So, either with a new XR3i master cylinder or the original with the top two returns blocked, the brake lines run as follows:

The brake line closest to the servo runs down to a t-piece on the drivers side of the inner wing. Here it splits and goes to the front driver side and to the rear passenger side(same as before). The other brake line runs to a t-piece on the passenger inner wing and again splits to the passenger side front and the driver side rear.

If you have a copy of the Haynes manual to hand, then turn to the schematic on page 9-15. At the bottom of the diagram there are the four lines that come in and out of each modulator ( 2 each ). If you label each of the lines from right to left 1,2,3,4, then you need to connect directly line 2 to 1, and directly line 4 to 3.

Once everything is all connected back up, bleed the brakes and disconnect the belts. If you can you can also remove the modulators. They weigh a ton and are now useless anyway.

Drive around and enjoy the sharper pedal feel.

Cheeers m8, wot bout that valve thing on the rear can i loose it??
