Default how do i connect a mini dv camcorder to my pc ?

as above , i just bought one thinking i could download my videos to my pc as it had a usb cable and software but after reading the instructions propely , i can only copy stills from the memory card with the usb , i need to know what port / card do i need to connect it with a dv cable ?

anyone help ?

I use Firewire or what ever Your PC would call it...IIEEE..etc,etc,

You will probably have a firewire port near your USB port, just look for another small socket. Have a look at the pictures here, it will probably be the 4 pin connection on your mini-dv.

A lot of the newer laptops come with a firewire port built in, but you will probably need to get a pci firewire card and install it in your PC.

You need to know if a) your computer has a Firewire (IEEE-1394) port on it, and b) if your camcorder has one.

If both have them, get one of these;

If you don't have Firewire on the PC but do have it on your camcorder, a PC card is needed as already mentioned.

best bet is a PCi card like this one;

You'll also need to check what kind of firewire port your camera has..

Most pc's will be 6 pin... but I think the camera is more likely to be 4 pin... inwhich case the cable above wouldn't be suited...

my pc hasnt got the port so i need both , it says the camcorder can be connected to either a 6 or 4 pin via the dv cable (2 sorts available) more expense !

Just do what I did...Buy a Mac No worries about none of this needing cards crap.
