Default whats needed to make a s2 stable when coming out of a corner

basicly when im taking a corner at high speed or lifting off the power the back end gets in a right mess and its REARLY dangerous!!!!

basicly when you streighten up the steering the back end goes right out of shape and sends you in to a snake down the road thats rearly hard to get out of

it helps alot if i keep the power planted and seems to reduce the problem quite alot

i never had this problem with my 2.0 xr2i taking the same corner at the same speed

its lowerd with std shocks 16" mondeo wheels(30psi pressure) no polly bushes and no strut brace

so what's been try'd and tested over the years to get thease old S2's to handle nice?

Err, throttle control mate!

What the hell are you doing lifting of the power mid way through a corner or when exiting one, of course it's going to wiggle abit to say the least! Easiest way to go through a hedge backwards that is mate, be careful ffs! lol

Should handle too bad on what you've got!

As I was reading youre question I was thinking to myself thats lift off oversteer, why the hell is he driving like that ????But Dan got there before me,as said, its youre fault, not the cars (unless all the rear bush's and shocks and tyres are really really worn),so learn to drive correctly mate (tongue in cheek) Regards Micky

with the other cars i drove i do that to get the back end out then slap on the power and hey presto you can steer the corner with your throttle and end up without a wiggle on the other side

if it's fine with all those other cars why does my s2 feel like a death trap?

i can take the corner sideways at 90mph in the other cars and use the amount of power to control the arse end GTI-6 was the best car for this!! exelent car

the problem is when you streighen up out of the corner the car just wants to go in to a snake instead of streightening up

and i have never lift off round a corner unless i want some more oversteer to help me round

OK,if I was you I'd start with the basic's.Make sure the following is correct,

1.Tyre pressure,it's 26 psi all round on a standard RST
2.Are the tyres a good brand,in good condition and the same make on the back??
3.Are the shocks and bush's in good condition or have they done 90,000 miles??
4.Are all 4 wheels pointing in the right direction??Get the car checked on a 4 wheel alignment rig.
5.Have the Mondeo alloys got the correct off set for a RST???

"so what's been try'd and tested over the years to get thease old S2's to handle nice? "

To answer youre question,I always felt an RST on Koni top adjustables and lowered 25mm/30mm handled really well.I use Chassis Dynamic's springs.Got both from the Woodford garage in Devon.

Hope the above helps you out, regards Micky

I didnt notice any real difference when i took off my good condition standard Ford bush's and fitted new poly bush's to be very honest. However I would say that replacing worn bush's with new poly bush's OR new standard bush's most certainly would.Regards Micky

Its also one of the newest Dave so should handle well

Give it 15 years down the line and (if its still around) it will be just as worn out as this Escort sounds.

Check your rear toe and camber - you have a lowered car on standard worn out shockers, put bigger wheels on and go pushing it hard round corners on tired/old bushes and wonder why your hitting problems

Buy some H&R CCC (triple-C) camber adjusting bolts, and run about 1.5-2 camber. I've used this on the ring (Bridgestone RE720's, H&R springs, Monroe dampers, Superflex) and the car was very good - I could four wheel drift when powering out of corners, or lift off to snap the front back in if needed. I never had a problem with the rear braking out, I would have had to have been in some seriously out of shape situation for that to happen (like forgetting there was a corner coming and slamming on the brakes while hopelessly trying to turn into it in time).

TBH I don't really understand what people are talking about when they say how they use getting the back out to get around a corner on a FWD car...does anyone have any video evidence or am I just a crap driver??

I'm with you there too TBH mate, I have doen it but only through pushing really hard and also in damp circumstances but that was few and far between as the bastid just went straight on in the wet!

The best and quickest way through a corner is obviously to have a well sorted and good handling car and then just take the fastest cleanest line you can, no sliding around as it just hinders your speed!

A completely STANDARD GOOD condition car wouldn't do this so you've obviously got a problem somewhere!!
