for telling me i need a new engine
honestly going to have a good think i think i might just keep the car and get things done as of when as the rest of the car is mint.
will it damage the engine in any way because of that VVT???
cheers APT for diagnosing the problem

Roosie, that wasn't quite the diagnosis now was it??!!
VVT is Fooked
Cams are Fooked
Bottom End doesn't rattle (but that doesn't mean its necessarily good, after all the previous owner just threw a set of shells at it)
Turbo Gaskets are non-existent
Rear Brakes are shot to pieces
Apart from that its as good as a 160,000 mile Automatic S14 gets.

You'll be a crazy fool to replace the cams etc without getting it stripped down and looked at, imo of course.
Tony, that opinion is with you being familiar with cams being around £250-£300.
Now imagine if they were more like £600??
To put £600 worth of cams into an engine that could potentially be fooked (i.e. at 160,000 miles the rings could easily be knackered) is like playing Russian Roulette.
