So does the 6deg really make a big difference then? Why not go for say, 78deg ones???

It does make a huge difference. 78° is too low and really not necessary.

I am right in thinking all CVH thermostats are the same?
Also is 82 when it starts to open or when it's fully open?

Will keep the car running cooler. The warm up side of it is far better than having no stat (which is what alot of people do
). I would say that the car is warm enough at 82°.
EBR, PM sent.
James, yes, all CVH Thermostat's are the same AFAIK.

it will take the same time to warm up (becuase the thermostat will be closed until 82şc is reached) and it will then control the water temps while there is air flow to the rad
Combine a Saff 4x4 fan switch which cuts in at 88şc (not the 92şc standard RST fan switch) and you can lower the water temps a few degrees all round

The 82C thermostats are available from any parts store. Just ask for a 82 degree Toyota thermostat. It's used in MR2s and Supras at least and it's a straigth fit.

Just looked on microcat and it seems all 2.0 Sierra Mk2 Cosworth fan switches are the same, they're also the same as the 2.3 diesel engine..
