Default The most stupid IT question ever - Muppets - Rant Rant

Some Desktop support contractor @ work just asked me is it possible to map network drives using a batch file I just sat there gob smacked for a while thinking WTF how did you get a job here can someone be so stupid how did he get through interview I just said yes you can have you ever seen a logon script

No One knows everything but this guy is a contractor and you expect him to be at a certain level I just sent an email to the boss saying what do you ask people at interview what there favourite colour is FFS

Its dangerous for contractors to know anything.

If they know anything they are in danger of getting the work completed, if they get the work completed they are in danger of losing thier nice cushy overpaid job.

Ive been in my current "3 month contract" since feb 2004

Got a contractor at work at the moment, mega sounding CV, done IT management and all sorts. I needed to know the name of his PC, I said hey what's the NetBios name of your PC? He's like erm....

FFS! Who interviews these people!!

Dell sent an engineer out once ( i was away that day), server kept crashing (motherboard had faulty memory slot), so said engineer decided to take all the disks out of the raid 5 array (don't know why as they are in a seperate compartment to the motherboard) and put them back in a different order

He told the guys on site: when that screen says "finished initialising container" it will reboot and then come back up. He then left

Guess who spent the next day restoring from backups

whenever an engineer says something along those lines (ie it'll work after a reboot) NEVER believe them

essexrsturbo, dont worry if you don uderstand what we're saying mate, youd dont need to to earn 50+k a year as an IT contractor. Just keep using random acroynms in conversation and people will think youre a technical guru.

ie:

the RAID set of the ASCII conversion Library needs to Interconnect to the RISC processing infasturucture of SAN arrays if we want to get our SCSI DIP system reading throught the I/O buffer

now, to anyone who knows anything about computers, if they hears that they'd laugh at your face... however say it to a potential client and they'll hand youa blank cheque

thats so true. I work for a small company that produces a program for estate agents. If we have to do something new like i had to learn how to make ASP's, then our boss wont send us on a course or nething we just get a book at most or have to search the net .
