yeah, dont do it untill u know its leaking, mine failed i found it quicker and easier to just take my engine out and do it!

if u do change make sure u get the seal carrier aswell, as most of the time the new seal will just leak

front crank seal is relatively easy to do, need to take the box out for the rear one though, and the clutch and flywheel off.

Don't under estimate changing the Sump/Gasket. It is a bitch to get them to seal.

Where is the oil?? Bottom of Starter? If so, my moneys on a Split/Perished Oil Drain hose. If so, part with your Ł35odd to Ford for a replacement!!

Trace where on the engine it is coming from before wading in and taking stuff like Crank Seals and Sump Gaskets on IMO.

If you end up doing the rear oil seal....MAKE SURE YO REPLACE THE ALLOY HOUSING AS WELL!!!!

I changed the seal twice and it was still leaking!!! Replaced it the 3rd time with the housing and now its sorted.

For the sake of Ł35 I'd change the housing every time!!

I've got an oil leak, too. Looks like gearbox oil. It is gathering in the engine subframe and then drops onto the ground. Any common places where it could come from?

Nope... Had a quick look around everything in this area but did not find anything unusual.

So you asked a question that has no real answer.
Just for the conversation.

Its an engine. Leaks are common from every crack and gasket.
