Default The performance difference between Super and reg Unleaded?

It was 83.9 for super at my local esso garage this morning when regular UL was 79.9. Petrol will not be getting any cheaper. If I was to run on reg UL it would save me around £600/yr with the current mileage I do(unfortunately not enough to justify another more economical car)

Just what would be the expected performance drop if the car was mapped for regular UL? Car is currently stg1 running around 280bhp.

What would be the difference if the car was running stg3?

Would you also see a drop in response or any other negative performance characteristics other than a drop in pure power.

to save £600 a year at 4p a litre difference would mean you are doing around 66,000 miles a year... in an Escort Cos

I always thought it was a bad idea to run any Cossie on regular unleaded. Only Optimax for mine.

SUL runs better than NUL, BUT, as yours is chipped, it most likely HAS to run on SUL variants.....otherwise the performance difference is det' or no det'

I know that, but what I am asking is if i had a chip specifically mapped for UL rather than SUL what would be the performance difference?????

SUL is at the bargain price of 80.9p a litre here... optimax is a full 5 pence more!

I thought reg u/l caused detonation problems and all cars should run at least super u/l if not optimax?

Re-read the above, the question is 'what would be the performance difference if the car was mapped for UL', i.e the map would make running the UL safe for the engine.

dont know but why dont u just try it and find out!...or think about how much the conversion would cost and then discover that it cost more to convert to crap fuel than what it does to run on good fuel!....

if ya really want to be part of the rep crowd and ram the cheap hose in then add some occtane booster once ya leave the forecourt!!!!!!!

Sorry fella, I'm not a mechanic, didnt think a chip or re-map would make any difference to the internals of the engine responding to sh/t fuel?
