In a desperate attempt to help resolve my water temp issues, I realise that the best thing to do would be to box in all the intercooler and radiator (which was kindly confirmed by Mr Norris of NMS ), but not having time to do this (car is currently have a new clutch fitted for me to be 'Ring ready ), so I came up with the idea at the end of last week to have an auxiliary radiator made that will sit where the turbo cooler one sits normally, to suppliment the existing cooling. However, I decided to use the existing charge-cooler arrangement (which is currently looped back on itself with a U-bend), which means the head gets the benefit of the supplimentary cooling (which needs it most ). This meant that the radiator had to be a twin pass one, with both inlet and outlet on the same side of the charge-cooler / thermostat pipework. So Pro-alloy came up trumps and made it for me and it arrives to put on the car tomorrow. Will post pictures up when I get in in the morning, as I've got to shoot now .

 

Hmmmmm *strokes chin* Interesting ... Maybe this will become a standard item on Pro Alloys range, once testing has confirmed whether it works or not??

Damo, yep it already has, the part number is MR007 .

Obviously the pictures have been taken with their intercooler set-up to give you an idea of dimensions / scale . May need your radiator lowering a fraction to enable fitting... .









As they say - every little helps - will be additional coolant volume as well as more air flow. It "may" even mean I don't have to box it all in (which will be a right pain in the arse to do - so the Pro-alloy boys would be relieved if this was the case ).

warned you 5years ago on rsoc that atc issues at the expense of ect issues, ect was always a problem on our rs 500 when we raced in indonesia you are lucky you live in england ambient temps were 42 deg c + fook the car some one cool me down lol.

My advice is to copy an rs 500
air damming is critical there must be at least a 10mm cap between rad and intercooler ,the rad must have this gap sealed to the intercooler.
If you remove the intercooler altogether ect will be fine

There is already at least a 10mm gap (more like 20mm). I know I have to seal this in and will do so over the winter (or Wayne and the lads will ).

I thought Harvey didn't "do" aftermarket radiators?

 

He had to after I PROVED to him that the standard one wasn't up to the job with the intercooler in the way. The Pro-alloy / Radtec one is better at low speed, but no different at high speed, which proves it is an air-flow issue... However, the recovery rate of the standard one is quicker than the alloy ones. The supplimentary radiator is intended to be a "band aid" to get me past the weekend, not a fix (which will require sealing in the whole system to ensure air is not deflected around the radiator).

to add to uncle tonys advice mike......change the car for an rs500 but make sure you take some driving lessons first
