Default thermostat housing valve???

I've been looking at putting the cvh thermostat housing on to the 2.0 zetec head for when i go zetec turbo and just before i went in all guns blazing and drilling and tapping the required holes i noticed there is an aditional hole on the cvh housing that i have never really paid any attention too as ive always gone zvh and kept the original head.

Does anyone know what the valve thing is inside the housing is for i assume its for when the engine cools as it would appear to shut once the water pump is running, main reason i ask is if it is important i'll have to modify the zetec head more than just drilling and tapping the 3 required holes.

Do you mean the thermostat (valve thing)

It will open to allow water to flow around your engine when it gets to a certain temp (normally around 88degres)

The water pump is always running mate as it belt driven by the cam belt.

i didnt mean the actual thermostat its self as i know what that does the valve thing that i'm on about is inside the housing as cant be removed the water feed to the valve is supplied via a 10mm hole to one side of the main supply to the thermostat its self the thermostat housing gasxket also has the same hole in it too to seal the whole affair up but the zetec head does not have this additional 10mm hole in to so supply the housing just trying to find out if i need to put this in the head somehow or if i can just use the mating face of the head to seal it off or will i have over heating problems if its blanked??

Also i didnt explain my self very well with this either what i ment was once the engine was turned off the valve can fall open as it no longer has the flow of water from the pump keeping the valve shut.
