Default Help!!!, Prob with my escort 1.8 Si mk6

Hello everyone.

Right to the point lols.

I just got this car a couple of months ago, its a escort mk6 1.8 Si, 115bhp version.
When i accelerate up hills or when i drive the car hard just the length of a road, when i come to brake and dip the clutch the revs will stick at 3k rpm. They will only come down once i bring the clutch up so it bites and then it will calm down. But as soon as i drive again at say 2k rpm same again when i dip the clutch the revs will creap up on there own to the 3k mark. Whats wrong!!!!!!!, this only happens when the caris hot and when i have driven hard, but this should not happen still.

2) aslo when i drive at 2k rpm or when the revs drop past 2 rpm there is a rattle coming from under the car. Maybe the cat. bt dunno. Im not loosing any performance and as soon as the car is over 2k rpm there is no noises at all.

If anyone can help i would appreciate.

Thank you,
James

The unhappy revs sounds like a sticky throttle or a potentiometer thats on the way out

As for the vibration, without listening to it, it's impossible to tell could be anything although exhuast clamps like to come loose or spin round so the bolt ends are vibrating against something

1st problem is either idle control vavle or throttle position sensor, i had same problem with my escort gti, a new throttle sensor sorted this out

does this on mine mate exactly as you have said , ive got a 1.6 si, although my revs havent stuck for over a month now , the rattle you hear is the scuff plate on the bottom of the cat , they tend to rattle around a bit. hope this helps, cheers mark.

p.s.
if your clutch goes, get a garage to do it coz its a c*nt of a job, just finished doing mine today, found it easyer taking the engine out my turbo!!

Deffo idle control valve my GTi was doing exactly the same thing. Took the valve of cleaned it out, coated it with good old WD40 then reset ecu. Make sure you reset ecu cus mine ran a bag of sh*t till i reset it.

hi mate, iv,e got a gti and mine started doing the some thing about 4 mounth ago. 3000k plus rattle under the car. i had the mas air flow changed plus spayed the lot with wd40, but did not help in anyway. i disconnected the battery to reset the ecu and it seemed to do the trick the revs went back to normal. but when the car got hot it started to lose power until i put the accelorater to the floor and then it would put ya back in ya seat. the car is in at FORD at the moment for the 6th time for the same thing. i dont no if they no what they are doing?. hopefully yours is something simple. the cars due back any day now so i'll get back in touch with ya and let ya know what the problem was, thats if they fix it.

I just bought a new idle control valve of ebay for mine mk6 115ps, seller called the-ford-shop, sells them all the time, I did clean mine old 1 and did make it beta for a few months, but started doing it again!!

Fitted the new 1 and it idle at 2500rpm, so i disconnected the battery for a couple of hours to reset the ecu, reconnected the battery, started it up, idles perfecty, sat a 1500rpm on cold start, took it for a spin, now sits just below a grand!!!

New valve cost me 48.98 including p+p, from the seller "the-ford-shop" there always seller them!!

The rattle also could be the heat shield beside the fuel tank, mine had ripped metal and was flapping around and needed to be resecured, after that...no more noise
