over the last month or so my gearbox has made a slight grinding noise when i slam the car into 3rd at high(ish) revs from 2nd gear and also when i drop it into 3rd from 4th @ high(ish) revs. my mate said this was the syncro on 3rd gear on its way out.

as i am planning on selling the car soon, i was nursing it - its not a noticable problem unless your giving it beans.

i let a different mate drive my car tonight and like a tit he booted it past a mini and slammed it into 3rd. it grinded like fook and from now on, pretty much every gear change from 2-3rd gear grinds and feels notchy, even on slow changes at low rpm (2k)

there is no way someone would buy my car without noticing this.

whats my options?

are there any sort of gearbox treatments that would help it out (for a while at least)

will it need a full on re-build to fix it?

swap it with another gearbox and just hope that one isn't fooked.

just to make things harder, its a MTX75 or MT75 - whichever is the fwd version. this means that i can only find one from a RS2000 or XR3i 130ps spec - i can't see me finding one of those in a too healthy condition.

can someone please offer me advice?

i'm alright mate, not so good now the box is fooked.

i can't really afford another box unless i really have to. seems a waste since i'm planning on selling it too.

hows your cos going? sorted out the problem you had before (was it the crossmember?)?
