DIY MODS?
Cam swap, intercooler, silicone hoses alloy bling bits etc
Wheels and suspension are easy enough to do on the driveway.
I changed my S2 dials so they illuminate from the front like a Mk5 Escort rather than from behind as normal Mk4's do. Wasn't to hard to do and looks pretty smart

How good are you with electrics? I had heaps of electronic ideas for my rs turbo which I never finished.
to name a few (which I've started doing on the cossie now):
Electric sunroof conversion
Update window switches to illuminated versions
HID lights
convert all bulbs to LED (white not blue!)
Blue lit dash conversion
Dump valve in-car on and off switch
Hi / Low boost switch
Flamer kit
electric boot release
Fan override switch
police style flashing headlights
hazzard warning light "thank you" switch (how annoying is it trying to hit the hazard switch on the steering coloumn after someones let you out!)
interior door handle illumination lights (like the mondeos)
footwell and door courtesy lights (not cheesy blue!)

if you go clear indicators remove the orange filter bits and use silver bulbs that flash orange or LEDS. Also add sidelights to the indiactors.
lights on warning buzzer (but use one out of a car from a scrappers - not an annoying 20p school buzzer!)
swap taillights so that the fog lights become the brake lights and vice versa.

The later fords (mondeos, escorts, granada etc..) all use Illuminated switches.
I was simply gonna remove the standard switches and fabricate a new holder to accomodate the newer switches. Then simply rewire!
Im still planning to do this mod on the saph.

thats actually a lot more grief, since you will have to run wires through the doors to connect to the motors and original loom.
Twins have done it on their car using Fiesta switches (I didnt get the idea from them though! - had it planned months before!) Take a look at their resto thread.

new stainless exhaust (a bit cumbersome when by yourself and only wheel ramps and trolly jacks to aid you).
dump valve (optional), ICE, steering wheel change (RS 3 or 4 spoke)(momo sparco etc).
Best thing to do is write down exactly what you want to do, plan everything out, so if your going to change your head unit - and at a later point your going to put in some switches to turn on some neons for example - then while your fiddling around with head unit, get your switched live from that circuit and run the wires to the places where you want the switches in preparation for that. It will save you hours later on, but take more hours in the first place, but it saves you taking a head unit out just to get at a switched live.
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
Most bling bits from auto specialists, however the bottom end stuff like altenator shield might prove a tad difficult, but if you have paitience then go for it.
Anything bodywork related, leave to pro's.
Anything your unsure of, get a haynes manual.
