Default Opinions of BMW Z3 M Coupe

Anybody owed one? reviews seem to rate them well. What are they like, any known problems?

Proper hooligan cars! love going sideways

Marmite looks mean that they are great value second hand

Thats a lovely one in that picture, silver suits it better than the Estoril Blue that alot of them are painted in. That car is modified though, aftermarket front and rear spoilers I think

FAST cars as well

Kind of love or hate shape i think.

They are 3.2 straight 6 with 321bhp guess similar to stage 3 cos.

Yes but they couldn't fit the 6 speed box in so it made do with a 5 speeder and I think the Exhaust was slightly more restrictive on them because of the cars smaller size.

later ones 2001 onwards had 325bhp engine as I remember

oh yes and obviously... you get the dreaded VANOS!

They are a great road car, but not that good on track. The brakes MUST be replaced for APs (as on all BMW M-cars ) if any track use is to be undertaken. They're also a bit "boaty" on track (and this was a low mileage car I was driving as well).

Fit the Schnitzer exhausts and you'll want to blip the throttle on every down change .

I absolutely fucking love(d) my Dads.....

Had the following Schnitzer bits - suspension, exhausts, de-limmiting module, proper downforce spoiler, 18" wheels. Aswell as Gruupe M filter and AP brakes. Awesome to drive, proper raw fun drivers car, you have to watch it though, can soon slip away from you. Had seen an indicated 170mph in it and Evo mag quote it at something silly like low 4's to 60mph. Would still say it's my fav BM, even over a CSL.

Ones after 1999 had better diff mounts from factory. Prior to this check they've had the factory fix.....see also www.tcdesignfab.com/mcoupe1diffrepair.htm

One got stuffed on the Shrewsbury bypass recently - guy lost it in a straight line in the dry.

Awesome Never heard anything but praise, remember Tiff Needell saying it was a master piece around a track

That's the one I have driven round the 'Ring (before the suspension mods). Was looking at seeing how that changed the "boaty" ride .

Was on a W on the original reg also. Unfortunately it's gone to car heaven! Was told by a dealer today it would've easily gone for Ł24k, I would think thats not even taking into account for the bits added to it, had only done 20k.

the earlier zm coupes had the s50 b32 enigne from an e36 m3 evo which were 321 bhp the later ones have the s52 engine from the e46 m3 but is down-tuned to 325 bhp.not really had any major problems with ones that come into work!the earlier engines are more prone to vanos problems though.id plump for a later one if you have the wonga!! hope this helps!

* Rudey *, That aimed at Paul Ripley? If so bttt for ya, if not

Looking into them a bit more, below 20k is a old/high miler. 23-29k for a later 2001 m coupe with reasonable miles.

One thing, couple advertised have 2+2 coupe written, they only 2 seaters arent they?

Fookin lovely cars, mate's dad has one in silver with the 19'' BBS rims on it, cost him about 3k for the rims alone I think!

Has got a few schnitzer bits on it too! Awesome!

Love BMW's, quality cars IMO!

Yes they are all 2 seaters, the boot isnt too small either.

The later cars are better in all areas, the engine is restricted from 340bhp to 325 due to the exhaust desing.Which ever one you get it will be great.

One blew me away in my MAD stage 4 Escos on a slip road, by the time I had realised he wanted a bit of a go, he was gone and my turbo was still turning like a big old waterwheel
