Default Jumpy Rev Counter... Again !! Attn: Electrical Guru's...

Hi All

Posted a couple of years back about a jumpy rev counter in my Saph 4x4 Cossie... before I could try the suggestions it cured itself?

However now it is back with a vengence, and obviously I cant remember what the cure was? Seem to remember it was to earth something like ignition amp, but we have done that with no success (in fact if its possible its worse)?

Any suggestioons very welcome as its doing it all the time now, even at very low revs/speeds?

Thanks in advance

I've had 3 Cossies now and they've all done it

There doesn't seem to be a cure for it

TDC &/or phase sensor can cause it, ignition amp can as can a dodgy connection from the coil where the actual rev counter pulse input is picked up from.

Kevin B,

Try this....

Next to the coil on the loom is a rev counter filter block.
This is black and about an inch long (bolted on bodywork if escos)
This will have TWO identical cour GREEN wires on in.

Disconnect these wires and temporarily join the wires together.
(only do this if the ignition is OFF otherwise you will get a shock)

See if this sorts things out.

This filter is to prevent radio interference.
One green wire is connected to the coil negative and the other goes to the rev counter.

Thank you all (again)

In the last few days the bouncyness has been getting worse, ie, its now doing it all the time, including on the over-run? It has also developed a slight mis-fire which is barely noticible (its only noticible at low revs/speed), would this point to the phase sensor? If so what/where is it and what do you have to do to it to sort the problem?

Will have a look at the black block near coil (its a Saph not escy) and see what that does.

Thanks for the replies, if someone (Simon?) could answer the above i would be very appreciative

Thanks.

The phase sensor is at the bottom of the dizzy.

The TDC sensor is located on the bottom pulley.

If it has a misfire as well, then it is likely to be one of these.

Cheers Mike

Knew where the TDC was, and suspected the phase was under dizzy but was not 100% sure.

What do we have to do to them to check/sort them?
