Can only be possibly this if the car has misfiring issues too.

Try this....

Next to the coil on the loom is a rev counter filter block.
This is black and about an inch long (bolted on bodywork if escos)
This will have TWO identical cour GREEN wires on in.

Disconnect these wires and temporarily join the wires together.
(only do this if the ignition is OFF otherwise you will get a shock)

See if this sorts things out.

This filter is to prevent radio interference.
One green wire is connected to the coil negative and the other goes to the rev counter.
