Default How much boost?

I've got a Stage 3 saph which was running a proven 337bhp at 23psi until the turbo ran out of puff...

i'm putting a t34 with .48 housing on and am wondering how much boost i'd be able to run, bearing in mind i've still got the 4x4 intercooler at the mo until i can get 500 one!!!

cheers

Run a safe 18 psi Paul until you get it setup properly, get it live mapped mate, you will not look back (27-28psi spike to 5000revs then drops to 24 and holds till 6000rpm and then tails off slowly for 22psi to the limiter to prevent blowing the engine .)

Get the 500 cooler on there too, you can pick them up for £200 2nd hand

And rolling roads aint proof

You'll just have to take me out in yours charlie and show me what twice the price gets you!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right... there's no comparison between a normal stg3 base map and a live map... i'd do it tomorrow if i had the chance!!!!

It's debatable whether that is safe to the limiter mate

Why are people still upgrading from the T3 to the T34 and not using the more modern Garrett GT series turbos?.
Just curious as Im looking at replacing my standard T3 turbo on my 1988 Sapphire and going to either a T34 or a GT roller ball turbo.

What are the pros and cons guys as I've heard the GT Roller Ball turbos spin-up 40% faster than the T34 so there's heaps less lag.
Or will the GT Roller Ball turbos rip my standard block to pieces?

Guys is a .48 housing the standard one to use on my 1988 Sapphire?.

I say this as I'm about to buy a T34, I know you can get .63 and possibly a few other sizes but I know sh!t all about turbos and how the housing size affects the fit/performance?.
I've ben told by both my Cosworth mechanic and Simon at Woodford Garage Motorsport that a .48 housing is the one to use.
I just thought I'd check here with you guys before I forked out the money for one.

The reason for the confusion is I live over here in New Zealand and the distributor over here seems to think that there is no such thing as a .48 and is telling me that I need a .63 or something along those lines.

Cheers again

to the best of my knowledge the .48 house is std.
the .55 is used in rally cars (bottom and topend power)
.63 housing for up to 380---some say 400hp, BUT with lag!! boost on something like 3500rpm, i think...

hope it helps

Hi kennert, yes mate this help heaps

The .48 Housing sounds like the one for me as Im somewhere in the mid 300 Hp mark.
.63 sounds a little nasty as I want as little lag as possible.

Cheers for replying mate

hi snow

Did not know the saff cossie was in new zealand
Really a nice car you have a minter

I think the std. .48 house is good for up to 300-310hp, much more than that will make the turbo go bang.

Cheers Kennert

Hi mate, yes they're definately a rarity over here in New Zealand.

Less than 50 Cosoworths as far as I know, all parts have to come in the from the U.K so it's hard work sometimes.
But sheesh, there are so many Japanese Subaru WRXs and Mitsibishi Evolutions over here in New Zealand, that owning something rare like a Cosworth was a must for me

I think my cosworth is somewhere around the 350hp mark so possibly the .48 housing will not be right for me/

Cheers again!

hi m8

I might be very wrong about the housing when I think about it
The .48 exhaust might be good for 350 hp, it's the compressor that is no good for more than 310hp ish

I think that's what I got wrong ......sorry
What is written on the turbo ??

Cheers Kennert

I'll have a look and get back to you mate.

As far as I'm aware the turbo is original and totally standard.

What you would be best doing is contacting Turbotechnics and seeing if they will send you out at Stage 3 t34, this comes with the .55 exhaust housing and is the same as my turbo..

Hardly any lag at all, specced to be able to run 30 psi all day long.

The bigger exhaust housing will make the engine rev more freely with a good live map, i couldnt believe the difference after fitting the turbo and having a re map!!

My aunties going to live in australia next year and was thinking of going to live there myself, new zealands in the same direction

Whats it like over there for cossy owners do you get much respect from othere people ?? Id love to move over there with my cossy
