Default FAO: Any Electronics guru's need help

Am currently starting a project on an automatic sliding door system (for my btec), you know like you find at the shop's, can anyone out there throw any info my way or suggest companies/websites where i can get some technical data ie wiring diagrams componant listngs and health and safety issues.

My initially idea is to use a motion detector (like on a security light) either side of the door to open

or an infrared beam to detect motion

then a pressure sensor or bimetalic strip on the door edge to avoid the door closing on someone.

The door must remain open for 10 seconds and open/close between 4-6 seconds

Any help will be much appreciated cos i can't find squat on the net at the mo

Cheers Seb

Theres a few people who may be able to help on here, hopefully they'll see this topic

In the mean time, have a look at www.electro-tech-online.com, a good electronics forum, may be people there who can assist

I am employed on building services under contract to a major supermarket.
I can answer questions on auto doors, but as its for your Btec I will not supply large quantities of text that you might cut and paste unaltered!!!!!!!!!

Auto doors use detectors both sides.
A pressure strip on the edge will mean hitting the customer!!!!!! not good, think again.
Children and coffin dodgers??
What happens in the event of a fire?

Have you looked here:

will do now, we've worked out about the sensors either side, am thinking of pressure sensor in the floor for someone stuck in the doorway, and fire regs say door must fail safe to open OR be able to push out, will proly go with the later, more building less programming that way!
