It shouldn't take too long - it's quite a coarse thread they screw down.

Are you using the special tool? (I don't mean IMA neither )

If not, the pistion may be off the end of the thread...

Neil.

As said above!

But once it does wind back dont go to far! as you end up braking a part in the caliper that works the handbrake, thats what i done

just looking in the ford manual and i can see what the proper tool does, part of it goes behind the 2 hook bits so as your winding it in it is pushing on the piston aswell

defo cat do it with the thing it have, cant put enough pressure on t to do it, wouldn't mind but when i was in the spares shop i said to the bloke i wanted the proper tool and he said this would be ok.
the reason you dont have to apply any pressure ginge is cos the tool does it as you wind it in

i read somewhere that you do have to apply pressure to it when winding in, hence why i said about it eariler, but ginge says he didnt have to, so i dunno.

Pops, if the piston turns, then it's not siezed..
And YES you do theoretically need to apply pressure as well as turn the piston to retract it - there is a clutch mechanism inside the piston as part of the self-adjusting mechanism, which can potentially allow the piston to spin without winding down the adjuster thread if pressure isn't applied.
Before someone jumps in saying "well mine just winds in on its own" - yes sometimes they might, just depends But in this case sods law applies and Pops needs the tool to apply pressure

here's the tool i have -

Thanks rich, that explains it alot better
and as you have said it must need pressure or otherwise they wouldn't make the tool where it applies pressure otherwise
and i surpose it any piston winds in without applying pressure then the clutch mechanism must be fooked on ones that dont.
