if you are going for a 5 speed a quaife bigtooth kit would be a safer option

if you want the R&D 6 speed dog box they are around Ł4750 +vat

 

prefer the 6 speed as th the quaife use standard synchros ive been told
i kept destroying my old box with only 330bhp and now ive just snapped to flywheel bolts in me crank
so going to go all out not and need sumthin to handle the power i want

Quaife bigtooth will EASILY handle the power and is much nicer and quieter for a roadcar. As well as being half the price of the R&D dog box its also much harder wearing.

R&D is VERY fast changing and obviously has 6 ratios, but its noisy and VERY harsh. I wouldn't dream of using one in an everyday road car.

 

what wud i be looking for at a big tooth quaife does it have uprated synchros
last time i spoke to quaife thjey wanted Ł3300 +vat for a grp n spec
thats why i was looking at r&d but the car will be mainly for weekends and strips up the pod

 

quaife bigtooth kit is around Ł2900 +vat plus fitting into a donor box

 

ive got 2 4x4 boxes one just got delievered today after been recon but dont need it no more
but what do u get in the quaife kit
what ratios are they

 

Don't worry about Syncros, the Quaife is STRONGER than the R&D...

BUT if its for weekend track blasts and strips up the pod then the R&D is sooo much faster changing It should be reliable with 330bhp as well... Kev bought one but sold it straight away as a friend of ours blew 2 up with 500bhp+. Same guy has never broken a Quaife by the way.

you get a set of gears ....ratio,s are GRP N.....so standard

 

so by the sounds of it quaife is the way to go then
its not the gears im worried about its 2nd gear syncro from hard launchines i kept destroying thats what im concerned about

 

launches wont destroy the synchros....it must be your driving

 

cud be bloody gearbox carnt keep up with my gearchange
thought it was the selector so fitted b&m shifter and kept breaking it so need sumthing quite solid

 

i had no complaints with my R&D

yes bacause the other raitios are much closer spaced
