just disconnect the electric plug from the cold start injector and she should fire up instantly when cold!! also it could be the thermo time switch that is the problem and not the cold start injector

addiction, thanks for the reply sorry to sound like an idiot i take it the plug that disconnects to the cold start valve is the one with the metal bracket around it keeping it on also where is the thermo time switch and can you tell me where it is and how hard is it to replace.if i disconnect the electric plug is it ok to leave off or does it need to be on all the time?
thanks for your help and i look forward to your reply

It's the one with a red fuel line going to it. You can see it if you look over the top of the cam cover down between the 2nd and 3rd inlet manifold tubes. Just disconnect it. If it solves your cold start problem just tape it to the loom out of the way. No need to do anything else.

No it's between the 2nd and 3rd but under the inlet manifold. Just look for a red fuel line that isn't going to one of the cylinders and follow that. At the end of it you'll find the valve.

or 07881676560 and I'll talk you through it

ok disconected the cold valve and i still have the problem,it's really weird as this only happens when she's cold it just turns over until it ready to fire up as soon as it's started there's no problem-same thing happened today so as soon as she fired up i switched her off and started her up straight after and she fired up as soon as i turned the key as i said this only happens from cold,it's had a new fuel pump and fuel filter so i'm a bit lost at the moment
anyone with some ideas would be most welcome

Might be along shot and will most probably sound stupid but check you fuse box! Look for the Heated seat(Yes i know they never had them)fuse If its blown replace it,if its not there put one in

Prob wont work but you may as well try

My MK3 xr3i was doing exactly the same...if left for any length of time it took 3-4 seconds to fire, where previuosly it started first time....the problem came on all of a sudden.

If it had run within, say, an hour, it would start first time.

I changed the fuel accumulator (next to the pump on a 3i, not sure about RST) and it has been fine and starts first time now, even after 2 month mini resto.

Worth trying to find a known good one and swop that first.

Cheers
