OK, people must have restored series 1's in the past so perhaps you can help me please?
I need some advise from someone as to where I can get some rear chassis rails made or if anyone knows of somewhere that still sells them for a MK3 Escort XR3??
Hopefully I will be able to start re-building it as my project for the winter but without these its gonna be abit pointless because as you can guess the original ones on there are shot to peices!!
Thanks for your help in advance, by the way im just outside Bournemouth so if anyone knows of someone it would help if they were in the South, but anything will help!

Dan,
have i got news for ya, well there's a good side and ...a bad side on it. Good news: still available, not that expensive. Down side, they are not Ford make, mine in the pic are the same ones, they fit(oversized), but it's a bit of work!!
Will check for price tomorra.
These are the ones, then???
if ya need anymore parts, just LMK, front panel on mine was 110euro(+/-70£)

You're welcome

ive welded a few of these in, in the past and here is my advice remove the old one and fettle the new one in from there, leave a tag of chassis at etheir end to weld to and as a guide, as the old one still rots away underneath and in three years or so you will be doing it again, irrespective of how much wax oil you put on as they rot from inside out. its up to you, my mothers mk3 cortina had three sets on before i realised and the last set have been on ten years an are still ok, the job was alot worse the 4th time as the floor was getting fooked up with all the welding etc from the past attemps.... your choice
that's the spirit ,just the way I'm doing it, why not and who the fook cares if you can't take her out for a spin for another 2 or 4 months longer???
yeah you sure can cut on time in repairing it, but within the next 2 years or so, you got to take it again of the road and restart the whole thing.
Thats' the spirit

dan m8 i've been there but obviosly not as bad as you i choped any bogus bits out and tried to keep as much original as poss keep us posted..fomoco i didnt rush mine i just did what was needed and its the same as it was in 1998
no need to get this wound up
just look at what kindda shit I'm into, take a peek under projects "Oh boy, here we go", then and only then you'll understand, sorry didn't mean these last words, just thought they looked good on the right place
.
Let's face it all, when you're doing a project don't weall want to have it finished in 1-2-3? Guess it's normal, right

I know what you guys are saying and i agree with you both, i'll do whats necessary for it to be right - if a little bit of whats original has to go then im afraid it has to go....
Its not that straight forward job and like Fomoco says its no good the car being off the road again in 2 - 3 years time, obviously you have done whats necessary to your project and if its still fine since 1998 then thats a credit to YOUR work that you carried out so
Im in no rush but i'll aim to be where you are now Craig soon!
Thanks for all your advice tho you 2!
Dan.
P.s. None of the above is meant as a dig at anyone, just sayin you know...

Ive been quoted £120 + VAT for the pair through my dads garage from a company called Abacus down here in Bournemouth!!
Didnt think Ford still had em on the shelf anymore, did you go straight to a Ford main dealer and buy them?
Cheers

i no what you mean by it isnt a straight forward job and i wasnt suggest you bodge or rush the project. I built my s1 in 1998 and showed it in concours for 2 years winning national day and ford fair 2 years on the trot. I stripped mine to a bare shell and did every thing my self bar paint the top so i no the probs your havin and the frustration if i can figure out how to post pics i'll put a few up i take my hat off to any one who embarks on this task ... all the best...

Thanx Craig, i know your not suggesting to bodge it but as I said before i'll do what I have to, to make it right you know
To post pics mate, get somewhere to host then try www.photobucket.com and then when you copy the link to the text box on here just add at the end of it!
If you can do a sig that good then you can post pics!

Come to mention it I have got mixed up!!!! I paid £80 each for them so £160 all in ordered on an over nighter delivered the next day by the Ford dealer.
You lose track of things when you get up to about 12 grand in parts!
Don't let that put you off though! I have spent that due to the way I want to modify the car...could have done it a lot cheaper.

To be honest I didn't fook about as these are a major load bearing member of the car......They are probably repair sections and are not worth bothering with..
Your £120 + VAT sounds ok (£141). If you are bothered about cost then I would go with these...

Wicked pics mate, what power was it running when you finished it?
The whole car looks absoluetly stunning, no wonder you won so much with it mate!
What other parts were rusted when you got hold of it, I think the seals need doing on my MK3 (as they do on most escorts!
) and there are some seems around the engine bay that have gone too!
Had your Rear Chassis rails rusted like mine too, as im having trouble getting hold of some as you can tell, the nearest place to me that sells them is Abacus Parts in Bournemouth who have quoted £141 inc VAT, but Hadrian Panels say I can get the part from Abacus at £46.00 inc VAT!!
Thanks
Dan.

dan m8 it was just over 200 bhp it had a stg 3 hybrid on it head was ported it was chipped scorpion exhaust k&n plus other bits and bobs.If youlook in the trim shot you can just make out the bias valve i put in to sort out the rear discs, the hoses was goodridge from master cylinder to calipers all with stainless aeroquip ends. The rear chasis rails had started to blister so i chopped out all the rust until it was all good metal and welded in flush the same thickness of metal. I took all the floor to the bear metal on the under side once i had welded it up then i etch primed it up and carried on until finish... the car had every new piece i could get from ford but i had to improvise on a few nuts bolts washers anything cheers for the compliments i hope yours ends up how you want it.......cheers craig...
