its been sent to me in XLS File format where can i download the software to open it

microsoft Excell spreadsheet - it comes as part of the office or works package and ususally comes bundled with windows on a new pc.

can be bought from staples quite cheep

Excel Viewer. Allows you to see the contents but nothing else.

As Gracie says, Staples sell it quite cheap.

Or, alternatively, use Open Office......a free multi-OS package similar to Microsoft Office, with the slightly massive difference of being FREE!
