What boost is needed for an YB to get 500+bhp?

 

more than 7psi

 

depends on a lot i should imagine, what turbo for a start?

Mine made 511bhp @ 1.2 bar (17psi) on the Dyno.

Turbo - head - cams are all relevant to power LOL...

Mine is @ 2.1 bar and won't make 500bhp LOL

 

Proper engine, making proper power from the engine, not the boost.....

GT30 with 0.86 a/r exhaust will make 500bhp with the correct head / cams etc at around 22-25psi (depending how well matched the components are and how close to det you are prepared to go).

 

Best way to build a turbo engine IMHO is to treat it like an N/A motor in terms of trying to increase the volumetric efficency as much as possible through things like headwork and getting the cams right (although unlikle N/A you want to avoid too much lift on overlap of course) then that way you dont need a massive amount of boost to make good power, the other way of course is to rev the tits out of it so that you are making more bhp for the same amount of torque.

I suspect rod does a bit of both of those things, but i doubt you will get much details out of the wiley old sod

Then on the turbo side of things bigger is better in terms of getting power from as little boost as possible buy obviously has a downside in spool up time, and same goes for intercooler, the cooler the charge the denser it is so the high the number of moles entering the chamber for a given volume of flow at a given pressure.


So to answer your question, somehwere between about 15 and 50 psi depending on engine spec!!!!

 

gt35 made 614bhp @ 2.2bar on pump, now on gt40 @ 2.5 bar .
