Default Esc Cos problem or not???

I think I've got a problem with the fuel coming to the engine.

I've got a 4bar pressure regulator on my Esc Cos so it should sit at 4.00bar without the vacuum on it on tickover. Well, it's not.
These are the values I get

3.87bar at tickover without vacuum pipe
3.20bar at tickover with vacuum pipe
3.00bar on overrun
5.50bar MAX
And especially that last part is worrying me. I'm running about 1.8-1.9bar peak boost and I doubt that the fuel pressure can be that low then.

Does anybody got any ideas???

Are you 100% sure of the accuracy of your measurements? Try using a properly calibrated gauge, as the SPA ones are well known for being slightly out.

I'm never sure of the accuracy of my measurements. I'm Belgian.

The thing is that the fuel pressure gauge went higher then this before.
That's what's worrying me. It used to go to about 5.90-6.00bar.

And no, I do not have a properly calibrated gauge.

That's what a 4bar fuel pressure regulator and 1.9bar peak turbo boost pressure does to it.

Standard is indeed a 3.5bar item

David,
Static fuel pressure is 3.5 bar, rising to whatever the boost pressure is added to this figure . I'd be VERY concerned if it had only 3.5 bar on boost .

Geert,
If you are now getting different readings, I would also be concerned. However, you are sure that it is not caused by your boost perhaps not being as much as it used to be?

hi mike,

i was just reading from the workshop manual as those figures will be for std 2wd no doubt on std boost, i think,

so the way in which it 'should work' is that it idle you have 3 bar say, then at 1 bar of boost the fuel pressure shuould have increased by 1 bar gauge aslo, so on the 1 bar example to 4 bar ...?

Mike,

The boost gauge is still going off the scale like it used to do before.
Allthough I cannot back that up as the boost gauge doesn't have a recall button but I'm pretty confident it does the exact same thing as usual.

Dave,

Not exactly like that m8.

Standard pressure regulator on an Esc Cos is a 3.5bar item.
At idle you'd get about 2.8-3.0bar because of the vacuum created.
At 0bar boost, you get 3.5bar so at 1bar boost you'd get 4.5bar fuel pressure.
I'm running a 4bar item so at my boost (1.8-1.9bar peak) it SHOULD read about 5.90bar which it doesn't anymore.

My standard reg leaked so I lost a few psi of pressure on the top end. Dunno how you could check this on yours though.

dont they reckon it should be changed around every 30K miles? if the pump cant push the fuel through a dirty filter that would have an effect on the pressure surely..?

I once did run the tank completely dry.
Could that affect the fuel pressure now?
Ie pump or filter perhaps?

Strangest thing is, she still pulls good enough and also exhaust gas temps aren't unusal.

This is doing my head in.
It's always something with Cossies. HATE IT

you may have picked up a load of crap from the bottom of the tank which normally you would never suck up if it was to the point where the car cut out, i would change thefilter first and see where that gets you,

re the regulateor, your cant say because you dont know or because its top secret..

also just remembered... when i did the head on mine i thought i'd strip the reg down and see what was inside, well i tellu, a load of crap same out when i split it, used some carb cleaner and ran the pump for a split second to purge out any more crap that was lurking in the lines around it, all you need is a pair of internal circlip pliers and a pair of vice grip plier to pull it out as the o rings hold it quite well if its not been distubed before.

Possible.
The car did cut out and the tank was completely bone dry/empty at that point.
I can't say what make the reg is because I have NO idea and the car is downstairs and i'm NOT going downstairs to look at it. It's way too f¨¨king hot outside.
