WTF ??? do you really think Renault would pull a driver out of a race and fake a problem with the car?

Exactly Andy, those 2 retirements probably cost Renault more than you'll earn in a lifetime!

Grow Up Matt, even if Renault couldn't win the race they would of liked to gain some points for the driver's championship!

I'm being 'grown up' you patronising nobber

You're entitled to your opinion just as much as I am mine. Flavio and Renault are well know for slightly 'iffy' political desicions.

nobber, really grown up!

so what do you think they'll gain from that slightly 'iify' decision then? They'll even be one of the first out in the next races qualifying, that doesn't help does it

Can guarantee they couldn't and wouldn't have pulled a stunt like that off in a pit stop Even if they could, as said above it would cost them ££££££ Go on the Ferraris tho

Each GP point is "roughly" worth $1M at the end of the year.

Unlikely to chuck it away.

Doesnt really matter to Reanault as they are funded through the French Government in a roundabout way.....

LOL at some of the non believers....if only you knew half of who actually made desicions and for what reasons in F1 you'd never watch it

Ah I see your logic now. Renault are subsidised by the French Government as an incentive to keep manufacturing in France. Renault Sport as a part of the company get a financial incentive to stay in France.

However, given that the manufacturing side of the F1 team are in Enstone, they arent privvy to any money from the French government. And they dont need it anyway Mild Seven pump in ~50M Euros a year. Into a total budget of around $200M

So they are quite happy to throw away a race just to avoid Fisichella winning a race.

As for underhand tactics in F1. Got any examples? Bet I have....

erm..if fisi had carried on holding up alonso then both the mclarens would have passed in a matter of a few laps, 10 points and a victory is better than 9 for 3rd and 4th

Ask Flavio about Shcumachers barge boards at benneton.....roflol

This is ridiculous. No formula1 team would deliberatley retire a car, especially one that was running in a podium position.

This is the daftest theory Ive ever heard. I suppose Jenson drove into the wall deliberatley to help Sato's chance of getting a point!

I doubt JPM or Kimi would have passed before the stops. Anyway, as Rosenthal kept gong on about Kimi's charge. And Alonso on the back foot. Its still 22 points difference. Thats 2 DNFs for Alonso and Kimi to win. And its still 2 points

FYI. If Kimi wins every race remaining and Alonso finishes 2nd. They'll finish the year equal points. And Kimi gets it on Count back. But thats very unlikely to happen.

Oh and do you mean the Barge boards or the plank under the car? from 94?

Ok......Fisichella was holding up Alonso......who was clearly quicker........both Maclarens were catching at a rate of 0.75 seconds a lap and were getting quicker. Chances are they would have passed them on track or during the pitstops......team orders are banned and striclty punishable

Scenario one, leave both cars alone and they'll probably get passed by the Maccas..... Maclaren will get 18 points Renault will get 11 at best with Kimi maybe taking the victory and a possible 5 points off Alonso

Scenario Two - Fisi is pulled into pits with a mysterious problem and Alonso defends his lead which we all know he can do as he has the pace today AND remember him holding off Shuey.... Renault 10 points plays 14 Maclaren - so less points lost in the manufacturers standings AND Alonso extends his points advantage over Kimi.

I know which one i'd go for

Nah. Its not going to play like that. MCLAREN (No A) 1-2 thats 18pts. Renault 3-4 10pts. So the gap closes 8 points in the Manufacturers and 6 points Kimi to Alonso. Which is better than the 10 points it DID close when FA clouted the wall.

You can say that FA woiuld have defended his lead. But Kimi's a racer too. Hed have hunted him down eventually and jumped him at the 2nd stop regardless.

Briatiore doesnt run race engineering on his own. And its better if your "Number 2" driver scores some points as it means it take them off your rivals.

Got a theory on the Moon Landings?

MattRS1600i, if they were going to put Alonso infront of Fisi they would have just 'fluffed' a pitstop and kept him in for 1/2 a second longer to let Alonso past.

Retiring him like that would never even be an option to them

Your maths is wrong tho... 1st is 10 2nd 8 3rd 6 4th 5

As i proved above if alonso had finished 1st with Maccas 2nd and third the position would have been better in every way for renault, more points to Alonso and kimi falling behind AND less of a loss in the manufacturers standings. ( 4 against 7 )

Anyway, I know what some of you think and what I think so lets leave it at that...there's no denying the logic is there tho.

Not at all, catching is one thing, passing is another altogether! The McLarens wouldn't have got past without a mistake from one of the Renos.

Think about it, if the were to pull Fisi in to stop him slowing Alonso down then Alonso pull away from the McLarens and win, then Alonso had as much (or more of a) chance of overtaking Fisi in a racing move as the McLarens would have of overtaking the Renaults!
