Default 13 years of ageing good for alcohol, not for zetecs...

Hi All;

I have been battling with the zetec to get it to work like it should. I was embarased again this morning when it didnt start at all again, so i replaced the starter motor, as this has been weak for a while (i think). Also cleaned all the wiring on the starter end and removed rust on one of the engine ground points.

However the problem still remains, the car is caked in oil, i have made an oil breather as i thought it may be leaking from here, but it still leaks, and not really in small amounts!

What can be causing it? I think it may be a gasket on the cam position sensor - has anyone else had this?
Also behind the coil bracket there is a bolt, this goes into the cylinder head, does anyone know what its for? there is oil around this, although the cam sensor is above this so the oil could come from there.

The ford parts department all know me by name now and are fed up with me, i'd like to sort this once and for-all!

Take a look at the pics...

The hole:

Oil all down the car:

The new starter:

The yuk old one:

The oil leak:

Not from the rocker cover:

Posible sensor:

Oil is above the level of the coil:

Any ideas?

Crankshaft, thats way down in the bottom of the engine, why would that be it - the oil is around the head mainly the rear right hand side corner of the engine.

How irritating! I have decided that i cant really do anything else on the car until this is sorted. The clutch is obviously covered in this oil, which explains why it is slipping and making the car judder a lot, and the cam belt has had oil on it, so needs changing.

Wheres the silver bullet! We need someone to come on and say "oh yes i had this it was the blah blah device gasket 26p from ford..."

Wayne;

I have solved the problem on my car. It was the cam position sensor, someone had put it in with a screw which was too long for the hole (it was also crossthreaded which meant it took ages to take out) and so the sensor was in the right place, but youcould move it in the hole so there was obviously space for oil to leak out there.

If you have the same problem, then check your sensor, it maybe worth replacing the rubber ring on it aswell, i may still have to do this, although it did look ok.
