On the way home from a trip to P.T.S Luton for a photoshoot with Performance Ford i got all the way back to Wellingborough(where i live) and was driving along the road when a marked focus police car screamed up behind me put his lights on and signaled for me to stop.

I pulled over got out the car and had this copper in my face saying' those numbers plates are illegal and so's that exhaust.

Fair play on the plates but the exhaust! i have a full scorpion stainless jobby and its's far from illegal

He then asked me to rev the car so i did, then he said no put it to the floor so i did and it hit the limiter and spat a lovely flame! his car was so close i could see the heat mark and was struggleing not to laugh! (the ppl in the bus stop didnt hold there laughter in)

My misses gave him abit of lip and he said 'thats it get in my car your having a ticket!'

So i got in his car, he then proceeded to say 'this cars chipped (then he revved it) and this doesnt have a big exhaust and is running alot more that yours'
So i said whats this running then?
170bhp he said
i laughed and said well mines nearly 260, and how come you got such a big increase with just a chip?
No response from copper....

He then said ok i'm putting a mark against your car and if i see it with those plates and exhaust your gunna get a fine!

Fair play on the plates i know there illegal and will change them, but he can kiss my arse if the zorst's being changed as i know its legal(it passes sound laws and emissions). Anyone else heard this about zorsts? or was i just pulled by a copper thats always wanted a RST lol

I had the same with my exhaust.. they followed me for 5mins until I got home Thats too loud.. not legal. my response, was on the car when I bought it, and went thru the MOT no probs.. have some of that

 

I know but had to bite my tongue and the plates were illegal and didnt want the ticket

Be Polite FFS it upsets them more when you dont bite

Wouldnt give it 100% throttle for anybody. Let alone let him do it in my car.

Dont run stupid number plates on the back of your car.

Exhausts probably got a number on it saying its legal.

Dont worry about it. He did nearly everything wrong, so it wouldn't stick in court.

 

Someone in blackpool once got pulled over and the police said it was illegal not to have locks and door handles...

I beleive that any aftermarket exhaust is in fact illegal if it increases the noise of the car from standard

 

This has been covered before but here is a reminder:

Regulation 54 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 provides for the fitting and use of an exhaust system including a silencer, to all vehicles propelled by an internal combustion engine.

54(1) Every vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine shall be fitted with an exhaust system including a silencer and the exhaust gases from the engine shall not escape into the atmosphere without first passing through the silencer.

(2) Every exhaust system and silencer shall be maintained in good and efficient working order and shall not after the date of manufacture be altered so as to increase the noise made by the escape of exhaust gases.

(3) Instead of complying with paragraph (1) a vehicle may comply with Community Directive 77/212, 81/334, 84/372, 84/424 or 92/97 or ECE Regulation 51.02 or, in the case of a motor cycle other than a moped, 78/1015, 87/56 or 89/235.

What this all means is you cannot modify the existing exhaust if it makes it louder than when fitted at the factory, otherwise it will not comply with type approval.

Also, the system will still have to retain the silencers/catalyser where applicable on the original design for that vehicle. Again, modification will mean the system will not be type approved and will not conform to MOT standards.

The simple point is manufacturers spend millions designing a car to meet type approval standards. Once you fit an aftermarket system that is not type approved, or modify an existing system, your system can be illegal.

Check the packaging on the system, and check the part itself for type approval marks. If it has the relevant markings it will be legal, but not if it increases the noise as described in reg 54(2) above.

 

Made my car totally original from the outside with quiet exhaust on so if I get pulled over for no reason I gonna give em some lip

It hasn't been altered it has been changed in its entirety and therfore that clause would not apply. The exhaust has been manufactured and fitted and has not been altered from manufacture

i parked up outside my house one day, as i was getting out 2 coppers pull up and ask me to calm my driving down, he said he could hear me miles away then proceded to say its too loud, if i get a traffic car round hear to test the noise limits on that thing, i'm sure we could do you, i called him a wally and walked in my house. its a full mongoose system

My bro was followed up the road and he pulled over. Copper drew alongside and gave him earache wanting to know what he was doing. My bros responded with "reversing into my drive officer" . Copper then asked why he didn't just pull in so my bro responded with "The Highway code states you are supposed to reverse onto your driveway" Only thing the copper could say was "Sort your light out the aims out!" and drove off.

Checked the lamps and they were fine. What a dickhead

I couldnt say alot mate cos of the risk of a ticket for the plates, if it'd just been the zorst i'd have pushed for a ticket

 

theyre not all wankers, i got tugged the other day in my tatty old l plate essy. the bloke had all reason to pull me, its regestered to my mum for cheapo insurance purposes, and there were two lads in it....and a brake light was out.

i got out and was just polite to him, wasnt cocky or owt and he was sound to me, check the tyres, checked the insurance and my licence, and wished me a good night and was on his way....

Actually, in theory, ANY modification you do to your vehicle is 'illegal' because the type approval no longer technically applies - EEC Eurocrats wanted it so you couldn't even change the stereo from standard...

Will have to watch out for the chipped Focus on my way home then If he thinks I'm gonna sit there revving the tits of my car stationary, then he's got another thing coming

Worth considering though, that if you didn't have 'fancy' plates on your car, you probably wouldn't have got pulled......
