I had just picked the gf up from work coming up to a nice straight bit of road i floor it through the gears then in 3rd this HUGE bang i meen louder than a gunshot and tones of smoke the whole road filled with it !

I dont know what the fcuk happened its my first rst
Have i done any damage ?

Yeah it drives fine

 

Mabey it backfired due to unburnt fuel passing through the exhaust-That would explain the bang.

Might sound like a silly question but what colour was the smoke?

My rs did this when i first got it, sounds like it overfueled, get it to a tuner.

 

Could it be runing to much boost ?

 

if overfueling what colour would the sprk plug tips be ? black with soot ?

 

a very similar thing happend to me a few days after i got my 1st rs turbo strangely enough in 3rd gear also all it was , was the boost limit being hit .
One hell of a back fire and the car nose dived still drove home ok then took the day off work the following day to check the car over and nothing???

agree with ksa74f/231bhp sounds like you hit overboost. Happend to me once and the driver behind me got blinded and gave me the dirtiest looks as he passed me.

get it to a tuner, and makesure it wont hit overboost again

 

agree,next time might not be so lucky
for the sake of say Ł50-Ł100(depending who you take it too)
it could save you in the long run,also will feel much better to drive after a tune

either over boost or you hit the limiter when you do that in mine you get a massive flame aswell when running 23 psi

 

mine did same when foot down in 4th recently - minus the smoke!

gettin it tuned sumwhere

 

I think Vanaaken developments in Bracknell still tune these, other then that you could try power engineering if you are really desperate.

AS per above comments it sounds like you hit the overboost protection limit. This would also lead me toi think that the car is not chipped so make sure you are not running more than 10psi of boost. Get it to a reputable tuner who will sort you out and have you grinning like a fool

Best feeling I ever had was when my RST went in for me to discover it was running a paltry 115bhp. When I drove home it was 185bhp and I was chuffed, well for a while at least.

 

Car looks good, get it set up before it breaks

I would take it to Chris at power Engineering for a set up. I can't be too far from Uxbridge and he really knows his stuff
