Default Oil Filler cap trying to get off!

Everytime I give the car a bit of a thrash the oil cap tries to jump off which eventually causes my car to cut out on idle if I dont push it back down!

I have been told I need a breather system...is there anything else I can do in the meantime to try and prevent this?

Easiest thing to do is clean it all up inside and clean where it sits on the rocker cover.

A few times round with some black insulation tape and jobs a good one it will stay on.

Get a breather kit from one of the traders.

70-80 quid will see you with a nice 2nd hand bailey breather and prob the pipes to go with it.

breather system is normally a cover up for ring damage.

hope its not the rings - try the breather - definitely the cheaper option!

well worth fitting a breather imo. but first get a new genuine ford cap,
most 'pattern' ones don't seal aswell, an if your cap is a bit old, as said above, the seal gets poor.

Stu told me the best thing to do is get one of those special bufty shiny caps that have the screws in them to fix them on real tight. He just loves these and wishes that Motorsport developments had thought of these first.

JOKE!!!!!!! before Stu sends someone round to kill me! If the cap is in good condition, then as other people have already said there is a good reason the cap is coming off.

I tried to kid myself that a breather system was all I needed to stop the cap popping off [even the dipstick shot out when it was having a power run at Engine Advantages ]

I put a bailey system on tho and it was ok for a bit, but just hiding an underlying problem.

Which is why my bottom end is now in bits

Get it looked at properly, get a compression test done [just for peace of mind if anything] befoe you wind up doing more damage than just a set of rings [Like me ]

well thats what we done on the way to central day, was having a laugh and the filler cap fell off, as we had a spare we came up with the fix it solution, rebuild time, fook no, grab the cable ties and we will fix it perminantly !!!!!

melted 2 pistons and a plug tip looked not too good on number 3 on the high speed fun on the way back

only minor meltdown though

Most breather systems dont use a large enough exit pipe blow by will always happen with 25 psi plus, always use a large exit breather.
