Default Think I've found my problem. (How do I ID the coil packs?!)

Just been scouring the net and found a thing on common Ford faults.

Q - We have a 1995 ford Mondeo Zetec it runs really rough and keeps cutting out when ever you come to idle, and on acceleration its like its running on kangaroo juice, taken the car to ford twice and they changed the idle air valve, air flow meter and the coolant temp sensor to no avail. I’ve even tried winding up the throttle stop but even this doesn’t stop it stalling aaaarrgh!

Answer -

Relax this is quite a commen problem with mondeo zetec systems, it sounds like you’ve realy driven round the houses trying to find this fault, the problem is probably staring you right in the face all you need to do is listen for it, can you hear a sucking sound around the coil packs I bet you can. This is caused by a little rubber T piece that connects manifold vacume to the EGR system under the coil pack, these little T pieces are always splitting and cause the exact same problem that you’ve just described.
Could be what's wrong with mine as the prblem sounds very very similar. Unfortunately I dunno where I am looking as far as coilpacks go. Where are they?

Will Fords have them in stock? Only thing is, the T piece being at fault doesn't explain the playing up when the indicator is activated does it? Or am I missing something?

I just wanna get this sorted after the trip home I've just endured...

OK Stu, I will explain, lol....

My Zetec Escort (which I have only had a week!) is playing up like crazy. Most of the times when I start it up it drops below idle and just splutters and dies when I put it in gear. It specially hates reverse. In neutral it's usually ok and doesn't normally die but occasionally it does.

When I drive it it tends to be OK most of the time in 3rd and above when I'm really going, but today it did give me some bunnyhopping at about 70. In first and second however, it's terrible. When I come down to a junction and I stop it often splutters then dies. If I'm coming to a junction and I hit the indicator or I'm on the motorway and I indicate to change lanes, it starts jerking and bunnyhopping(even if I put my foot to the floor) and then when I take the indicator off again it's fine. When I do indicate and it starts jerking, the indicator flashes really fast, faster than normal.

Also it seems to falter when I have my foot on the brake but when I release the pedal the revs raise a little. Very odd to me.

I tried putting a new idle speed control valve on and it hasn't helped. Other than the indicator and brake stuff, the article I quoted above seems to fit with what my car is doing.

I'm just so frustrated.

Well this is disappointing......

If I want to replace the T piece thingy what do I ask for at Ford? Does anyone have any ideas as to whether that's my problem here or what?

i said on your other post that it sounds like an air leak. it's worth looking there, but it could be elsewhere, or it could be something else.

it's very difficult to diagnose problems unless you're with the car, so you should have a little more patience.

OK Gracie, can I bring her round in the morning? I'm going for a drink straight after work to "support" a mate who's just had a break up lol

She's a nice lass, and I've been waiting a long time for this

I hope you're kidding! You're usually open to a bit of winding up..... what's wrong with you today?!

Didn't mean to offend mate, to be honest I just expected a witty comeback like you normally give.

Sorry man, I thought you and I got on pretty well. I apologise and will edit it out straight away.

And I understand if you really don't wanna help with the car now, but it would be really appreciated.

Sorry again pal.
