Default ecu problem????

the car has been into the tuners for the past couple of days theres not much more they can do with it until the ecu gets sorted out!!!!!!! aparently the engine isnt communicating with the ecu correctly, on closer inspection the ecu has 'blown'. that would be why its a bitch to start and keep running till warm!!!!!!!!!!!! just wondering, hes told me over the phone i need a 0280800196 ke 2.6 ecu????? any ideas where to get one of these from fairly cheap?
also how easy is it to change the injector seals and manifold gasket? they are in need of replacing aswell so i want to get hold of them before the weekend and possibly do it over the weekend to get it somewhere near!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the ecu had blown I guess it wouldn't run at all ....... ??

Seals and gasket should take 2 hours max ( thats with a lunch hour in the middle too )

That sounds like the Bosch fuel ECU which will still allow it to run (as the spark is controlled by the ESC 2 silver ECU) but won't control the fueling correctly....

I assume this is on an S2?

If it's an S2 the basic fueling control is mechanical but enrichment for on boost and warm up is electronic...controlled by a seperate ECU.

The ESC 2 Ford ECU is a glorified ignition module with spark maps and boost control intergrated. All it does is comunicate breifly with the Bosch ECU (which controls fueling) on pin 25 and 20.

This really sounds like a management problem.

The KE-Jetronic always injects extra petrol when the starter motor is turning, warm or cold engine.
Directly after the engine runs, mixture is enriched for a fixed period, warm or cold engine.
Then the system detects the engine temperature en from this fact the mixture is enriched until it is 60 C.

It is unlikely that all of this is broken at the same time in the KE-Jetronic, so a (temporary, just to check) swap of the Bosch computer would maybe solve the problem.

Cheers
