Default Series One whining noise

Hi guys, hope you can help.
In the mornings I sit in my S1 warming her up and there's an electrical whining noise that's quite loud. It quietens down a bit by the time I get to work but it's still there. It sounds like it's coming from somewhere towards the back of the car and it was suggested it was something to do with a secondary fuel pump. Does anyone know for sure? Any help would be great.

Yep,

That will be the fuel pump making that noise. They do all do it but if it has got alot worse than it used to be then it's time to replace it before it packs up completely

Regards
Andy

Sweet. Thanks for the advice, I've only had the car a couple of weeks so don't know if it's got worse. Better replace it now to be on the safe side. Thanks again.

Had the same thing with mine a few years back. If you get under the car when it's running you can confirm that it's the pump, it's mounted just to the rear of the tank, can't miss it.

Colin.

Cheers guys. Had a look and it's definitely the fuel pump, as Colin said, I couldn't miss it. Seems quiet sometimes, noisey others, probably best replacing it.
And yep, S1s rule, especially on a sunny day, with the windows open and the turbo spinning up nicely. Puts you in a good mood for a day at work.

I think there are actually pics up on here somewhere already. It's D*** HKR and was in one of the discussions on how many d-plates were left. Swapped it for my Cossie, seems like it's in good nick, just need to find somewhere to take the arches, skirts etc off and refit them better as whoever restored it didn't do a perfect job.
