Started off with 1989 Yamaha FZR1000 EXUP, did a rebuild with 6 speed box, 1040 kit, billet clutch etc and after a while got bored with 137bhp at the wheel and for some reason decided that a turbo would be a good idea
Running with an IHI bitsa turbo and home made manifold blowing through some troublesome carbs
First ex manifold was a log type
Mk2 version half complete

Nearly done

Baked in the oven with "ceramakote"

fitted

Half made plenum/intercooler

Fitted over carbs with tempory cement mixer fuel tank for tuning purposes

Trying to get CV carbs to work with a blow through turbo system with large cam overlap turned out to be a stupid idea
Massive overfueling at low rpm made the bike splutter it's nuts off on a warm day and it was only any good over 6000rpm
Pic shows AFR and BHP at wheel on a hot day at the dyno.

PLAN B
Ditch the carbs and megasquirt it.

Stock inlet manifolds modified to convert from 38mm CV carbs to GSXR750 46mm bodies.

Bodies re-spaced and modified with Jag V8 injectors and billet fuel rail.

End body modified to take GM TPS

Fitted

Escos FPR and billet remote housing

Still have to make the old plenum fit new bodies, find a home for MegaSquirt and make wiring loom but it should be running this year I hope !

Finally got on the dyno and got the fuelling a bit closer than it was but had more than a few problems with the tuning software

I will do the rest of the mapping using datalogs and tweaking the VE map in small steps. Even with all the hassel it still beats the shit out of carbs

You doing an Exup ?
Oh dear, that's a shame. Yes I've got a 89/90 bike that a guy gave me part customised, sort of cafe racer style, alloy tank and a funky seat post etc and I'm finishing it. Straight bars, R1 levers and brakes etc Thought a turbo set up would add a bit of interest as well as proper grunt. Actually thinking about it, don't happen to have contact with the chap who high-sided yours do you? I mean I was going to go similar route with 6 SPEED from the 750, forged piston kit yada yada. Wonder if he wants to lose it?
Let me know if that's possible.
Cheers

I've probably got an AutoCad drawing for the decompression plate that goes under the barrels somewhere if it would help?
Soz, message went squiffy.... Best method to achieve it. I'm looking at turbos atm to work out boost, volumes etc poss a garrett T25 from a Nissan or a Borg Warner. I've made a plenum but it's currently sitting on the Mikuni carbs which may have to go for FI setup which would make more sense. Cheers for now and thanks again.

I contacted to guy who bought it off me, he's not sure if he wants to sell it or not and will get back to me.
PM me your email address and I'll send you the drawing for the base gasket spacer.
