Default Engine timing

Seems unknown to me that timing is the cause of the head gasket trouble I've been having also after speaking to a reputable tuner he believes a comertic gasket is the way to go and retard the timing, so guys where should I aim the timing for, running 10 psi it has a scorpion exhaust, k and n air filter and a larger front mounted intercooler

Didn't the reputable tuner tell you what to set the timing to?

I havent had a rs turbo since the 90s but i do remember that if its not set right the timing makes so much difference to how it runs and retarding it may make it run hotter and feel flat as a fart,
