Ford Focus mk2 2.0 Duratec 2007 cranking no start no fuel pump prime Now Fixed
So my Ford Focus mk2 2007 2.0 duratec has been stood a few weeks, flat battery, charged up, now it spluttered briefly on first turn of key, 2nd go it just cranks, no fuel pump priming noise.
I checked 15amp fuse in position 51 under glovebox seems OK, tried another, still just cranks
Tried fuel cutoff switch in drivers footwell, didn't seem like it popped up, I can press it in but it doesn't click! How far in does it have to be pressed?
Is there a fuel pump relay?
I guess I try a fresh battery and check earth points, any more ideas appreciated.
Cheers Phil

So just for context, it was starting, running fine and used daily prior to being parked up.
I noticed the alarm flashing LED wasn't blinking after a while, so it had completely drained the battery.
Took the battery off, gave it a good charge over night.
Not sure if there is a correct procedure to link up the key fob with the immobiliser, I locked and unlocked the car with the plipper, I just turned the ignition on and left it for a few seconds, repeated but noticed no fuel pump prime whir, obviously car just cranks with no fuel pressure.
It did splutter a bit the first crank but that could be just residual fuel left in the fuel rail / injectors but I didn't notice if the fuel.pump primed, I guess not?
Could it be somekind of immobiliser or anti theft issue? Would the engine crank in that case?
My car is fitted with the factory alarm.
Maybe the instrument cluster/ dry solder joint issue?
Are there any relays or fuses that would cause this issue in the engine bay fuse box?

The LED is not a good indicator for the capacity of the battery. As long as there's enough power to crank the engine, everything is fine. Plus fuel pump will still work even when there's not enough power left to crank the engine.
The LED indicates the status of the immobiliser, just check your manual. And yes, even if the immobiliser still works, the engine usually will crank.
Most obvious reason: your fuel pump gave up. First check the power supply for the pump. If it's fine, you'll need a new pump.

Cheers, I suspect fuel pump at this point, will check power when I find my multimeter....
I just want to be sure it's not something like a bad fuel pump relay or some immobiliser procedure I've missed.

Probably not. I've just checked in my MK6 (2002-2008) Fiesta ST as I wasn't sure. Separated key and remote, the immobiliser parts are in the remote section of the whole key. When you turn the ignition on (without the immobiliser parts in place) the fuel pump will prime AND the LED will start flashing. You'll notice that without any doubt.
So update time - I've checked my fuel pump fuse was fine, checked I have a good earth from battery, replaced my battery for a new one, I now seem to have a fuel pump prime noise at ignition on, not sure if it was ok all the time but I'm fairly sure I didn't hear it!
Also no odd immobiliser light flashing, just blinks as normal without key in and goes out when ignition on but still all I'm getting is cranking and now a strong smell of fuel like I've flooded it..
Any ideas?
I'm thinking clocks, dry solder joint, ECU earth?
Any other ideas appreciated.
Cheers Phil

Now resolved -
So fuel wasn't the issue, I wasn't sure I was getting a spark or if the crank sensor / timing was an issue, so a quick spray of brake cleaner down the throttle body and the engine fired up!
I think what caused the issue was my flat battery after being stood a few weeks, even after a charge it was a tired old battery in need of replacement. The fresh battery helped but it still only cranked, no start but what I noticed it was cranking faster than it should, almost like no compression or timing chain snapped!
I guess my constant cranking and fuelling flooded and washed out the bores of oil, lost compression? The brake cleaner just helped get that initial combustion, burn off any residual fuel and get the oil pressure up enough to restore compression in the bores?
All fine now and running / starting perfectly as before!
Cheers for all your input and advice.
