Default saff 2wd fuel tank sender unit

im putting a new fuel tank on my saff 2wd when i took out the sender unit ive notticed theres some kind of liquid in the actual plastic float it self. not sure if its in there for ballast got no idea how its got in there as its not leaking out its probably just under a quarter full has anyone come across this before thanks in advance

if anyone has the same issue it looks like a vw beetle 1968-1979 uses the same plastic float. i rang ford they are discontinued the fiesta and escort also use the same plastic float. one of the 80s sender unit it self looks very similar from the same vehicle if it could be matched to the guage. my sender seems fine

like you say it is new. i thought i found the exact same one from a 69-1979 vw beetle it turned up its twice the fukin size. i thought it might be but worth a chance for £14. not sure what im going to do now im looking for fuel resistant silicone sealer of some sort to smear over my float . i could make one from copper shim soilder it together but cant be bothered. willys jeep ones are made from two round sections of cork. i was going to weld a new bit on to my sender arm not sure if the mig weld process would damage the fine electrical components. or i may cover it in fibreglass mat and ressin not sure its fibreglass is fuel resistant
