Default Sapphire 4x4 won't idle

We did a head gasket on my car and ever since it's not idled properly. It's also over fuelling badly at idle. I changed the coolant temp sensor but it's made no difference. The car does seem to drive ok, it just won't idle? Any ideas?

It's been off the road since 2018 with this problem, but I think it's about time I try and sort it lol

I second the above. The fuel pressure regulators go bad on these cars. Mine was over fuelling and wouldn’t idle and it turned out the regulator was leaking a small amount of fuel into the air line to the intake manifold and unmetered fuel was causing it to run too rich. If you take the air line off the regulator and fuel comes out that’s your culprit.

Even if it’s not your problem change the regulator anyway if it’s never been changed as when they leak they drop petrol onto the dizzy below and I’m sure you can imagine the result!

Hi James! Yes I'm still alive lol. I've an aeromotive regulator on it? Have you had problems with those?

Make sure the ICV valve connector hasn't been fitted to one of the injectors, same plugs on some Cossies!

I can't find any leaks at the inlet, beginning to suspect the Map tbh.

I remember how much I couldn't be bothered to fix it back then lol

Have you got the fault code reader? It should tell you if there is an issue on any of the sensors. Alternatively check the voltage and resistance via the ecu connector. I’ll post what you need below and are my go to guides for any fault finding.

Alternatively if you’re Kent way I’m happy to help you if you’re local.

I have the led hard wired into my dash

That is a mega load of very useful information which should help get to the source of his problem.

Hi,

I have also issues with my. Idle is bad, when engine is cold. Idle goes down, up down up from 950-600-950-600....
Car has MSD 330 chip, with closed loop.
Car is starting also badly, when it´s cold. When engine is warm idle is ok and also car starts fine.

Changed parts:
-MAP
-Fuel pressure regulator
-Air temp sensor
-Coolant temp sensor
-Inlet gasket (was leaking from middle part of inlet manifold)
-Fuel pump loom
-Spark plugs

Done so far:
-Checked fuel pressure
-Cleaned ICV
-Adjusted idle (plug OFF ICV socket, turned electric devices off and adjusted idle speed to 500-600RPM and then plugged ICV socket back)

Next ideas:
-Lambda?
-Clean injectors?
-Faulty injector?

Ideas welcome....

I would check the voltages next to see if the sensors are working okay.

check the plug on your distributor and make sure your phase sensor in the distributor is in good condition

Idle speed when engine hot with connector removed from iscv should be 850 rpm.

Thats why it is now hunting up and down when you set it to 500-600 rpm.
