Default 1990 RS Cossie 4x4 Down Under - engine bay mods?

Hi All,
Apologies for the long post but I might as well get it over with!
I finally got my car on the road. The car has been modded - please see the photos attached and let me know what you think. Unfortunately, I have zero history with the car.
Full 3 inch Scorpion exhaust.
Engine Bay

Turbo 10623

Piper Cams

FMIC block off

The car is running well except for a slightly high idle (1100 ish).
I went to adjust the idle screw but cannot find one! See attached pic of the throttle body area. Circled in yellow is something blanked off again.

Any help/ advice/ positive comments are appreciated.
Thanks

Hi
The idle screw is under the throttle body
The blanked off vacuum connection is for the dump valve if you were running one .
Cheers Tim

Ok - so no interest in this subject! I was just hoping to see if I could find some more info about the mods.
One thing that I have noticed is there is no BOV. The first photo shows this to the extreme right.

It is difficult to say what exactly has been done to the engine etc without any history from the previous owner. There are so many different things that can be done to the YB motor. The silicone hoses are better than the originals as are the vernier pulleys. What State do you live in and did you have any problems getting it road registered?

There are lots of Chrome, S/steel and alloy parts which you can fit under the bonnet.

Mine is 2wd with 450bhp.

I have had mine for 26 years and never get bored with it!!

26 years! That is impressive!
Your Samco hoses look the same configuration as mine - no BOV either.
Your airbox is awesome along with the custom made piping!

I live in Perth, WA. I don't want to bore people with the list of issues getting it road registered but needless to say the biggest pain was the fitment of intrusion bars in the front doors. I worked it out but it took days of "head scratching!"

I have never had a BOV ( called dump valve here ) some people like the noise they make but never interested me. My alloy air box houses my ITG cone filter and I have never seen another Sapphire Cosworth with one the same as mine. it keeps the air filter cooler and avoids any possibility of big bits of debris getting sucked into it! It is a very clever bit of alloy welding on the pipe. There is another guy on this Forum who has recently imported a Sapphire Cosworth into WA and he has also had some problems getting it registered for the road.I don't get the bit about side intrusion bars in the front doors. It is an old car not a modern one. It seems to me your Motor vehicle dept wants to make it as hard as possible to comply with the rules!! I used to live in Adelaide and I don't know how strict South Australia is when it comes to importing cars like the Sapphire Cosworth..Good luck with it , there won't be very many other cars like yours on the WA roads!!

Hey, thanks for the reply.

The "other" guy importing into WA is me! Yes - your airbox and associated piping are a work of art! I am interested in your brake set up too - they look way bigger than my standard items.
Finally got the car WA road registered and it def. was a pita. The side intrusion bars was an ADR issue - ALL imported cars from 1990 onwards need to have them retro fitted to pass this inspection (I believe this will be the case across the whole of Australia - but do not quote me on that one)! I know of some recent TVR Griffith imports that only got away with not fitting them because they are glass fibre bodies. I also only had to fit them to the front doors! The rear passengers do not count!
Cheers.

Looks like your Aussie Motor Vehicles Dept have decided to really make it difficult to import British classic cars! Some jobsworth probably thought it up but as you said the car has 4 doors not 2 so makes no sense! Do you have to carry with you some sort of certificate to say your car is all road legal? Big brake set up's are fairly common on Sapphire Cosworth's over here and you can order them as a complete kit from various places. Makes a big difference as the small standard brakes are not much good once you get the power up. Mine is over twice the standard power and I need to know the brakes are spot on!!! The only thing I would say is if you import a big brake set-up will you run into any problems again because you are fitting non standard items? Cheers Richard.

Hi again Richard.
Sorry for the delay in replying. Here in WA, once the car is road registered it is the same as in the UK - I can do what the hell I like! However, there are some "jobsworth" traffic cops who can "yellow sticker" any car they believe needs an inspection due to being modded. For example, the front strut bar was considered a mod during one of the inspections! I had to remove it otherwise I would have needed an engineering cert for it! Obviously, I put it straight back on after the inspection I am thinking about a brake upgrade though but it must fit inside my present 17 inch wheels.
Anyways - you said you have probably 400ish HP? I am still wondering about mine - I'm thinking it must be Stage 1 as just looking into the engine bay it has a 3 inch Scorpion exhaust, green injectors, Turbo Technics 10623 turbo, Piper Cams and interestingly, an extra multi connector for the distributor side connection. The rocker cover is BLACK - is it true that certain tuners painted the covers as a sign of their work?
The car goes ballistic at 3600 revs which is great Up to that point it is a boggo 2.0 litre from the 80s! I will have a look in the ECU for a newer chip when I get the chance.
Cheers

Hi, it sounds like it has been upgraded, a decent rolling road set up will tell you what power it is putting out, but not sure if there are any places where you can get it done near where you live? The black painted rocker cover is not something I have heard of from a particular tuner,. My wheels are 17inch and my big brake set up sits inside them ok. Have you tried any Aussie brake companies to see if they do a kit for your car? cheers Richard.
