Escort or Fiesta, which is best for my resto project?
Hi everyone
want to get into a classic Turbo-Ford resto project, but was wondering if I should aim for an S2 Escort Turbo or a Fiesta Turbo. I like both cars a lot, but is there something that would make one of them more desirable/practical than the other? Like parts availabilty, easiness of working with the car, better handling once improved, and such. I would like to keep the engine and looks fairly standard (Mint factory look style), just improve the usual weak points these cars had like brakes and suspension, add LSD (In the Fiesta) extra gauges and such.
Thanks for any advice!

My main concern with the Fiesta is that the stability & traction is worse than the Escort even if upgraded in suspension/brakes/LSD. But I like the more rigid body, which AFAIK can be further reinforced with RS1800 parts, and the general looks of it. I had an S2 long ago, know how they are but would like to try a Fiesta if I can bring it up to par. Otherwise I rather stay with an S2 I guess.
Bosch still provides parts and service.
Fords old non-OBD EFI units can be a pain in the arse nowadays as nearly all of the Ford dealers threw away the old test equipment. Mostly because it was no longer working. "Upgrading" the FRST to an aftermarket ECU is easier than doing this with an ERST as the FRST already is running an electronic unit and has a CPS etc. Not a big issue unless you absolutely want to keep it 100% original.
There's less FRST on the road and therefore making it a little bit more special although ERST seems to be more popular and more expensive. On the other hand: most of the people will not notice the difference between an FRST and an XR2i.

Just realized that finding the original Fiesta 185/55/14s in V speed code is quite hard, will have to consider going to 15 inch rims if I want one. Then again, shod with 195/45/15s and adding a LSD it should improve dramatically over stock ...
I'm considering a white FRST original owner, non modified, 60k miles example in white now ... apart from body rust and blue smoke indicating possible blown turbo/oil burning, any tips on what to keep an eye on?
