Default Nice day for a drive in my Saff.

We have had so much rain lately the Saff has not been out since September. Today was sunny and dry this afternoon so ideal for a quick blast. I forget how quick it is and what a smile it put's on my face! Mine is only 450bhp but being 2wd it goes like a rocket on a cool day! Had it for 28 years now and I still love it. The new centre push hydraulic clutch conversion I had done by Julian Godfrey has made a big difference to gear changing in the T5, Much smoother and even goes into reverse with no crunching.

It is a centre push hydraulic clutch conversion which was put in, so much better than the first side push one I had. It makes gear changing almost like a modern car and I have been very pleased with it.I guess over the years I have got used to the way it delivers the power but anyone that comes out with me for the first time usually get out saying it is the quickest car they have been in!! All old school mods but still does the job!! A measure of how well it goes was a few years ago I had a a bit of fun with a twin turbo 525bhp Porsche 911. That to me is a quick car and although I could'nt get past it I was right on his rear bumper as he pushed it flat out up to "slightly over the limit". It was on a dual carriageway and further on we had to slow down as there was traffic building up. He was turning off to go on a different road and he pulled over and I came alongside him and he put his window down and shouted to me "fuck me what have you done to your Saff? I was flat out in every gear and could'nt beleive you were still right behind me, I have never had any other car that can keep up with me!!!!. I drove home feeling very satisfied and proud of my old 1990 Saff!!!

Very nice! And indeed, I wouldn't call it ONLY 450 bhp... My 4x4 is only about 360 and 4x4 which makes it slower as well, but I still find it quick (although I haven't driven it for 2 years now ). Yours would probably blow my mind!

What have you done to it to get 450? Does it have a T38?

Hi Marc, I started off with a brand new wire rung 200 block, balanced bottom end, competition bearings, pocketed pistons, 7.5 to 1 low comp, BD10 & BD12 cams,a fully worked Group A cylinder head,Siemens 890cc low impedence injectors,A&S Hart Style polished inlet port matched, group A head gasket, high capacity oil pump, T38 turbo with billet compressor wheel @2bar boost, L8 ECU with Baby board injector driver, custom MSD chip, wasted spark ignition, IK31 Denso iridium spark plugs, new engine , fans and 044 fuel pump looms,RS500 style intercooler, pre turbo cooler, high flow alloy radiator,Helix 6 paddle clutch with centre push hydraulic conversion, All now probably thought of as "old fashioned" but it certainly works for me!!!

Lovely car this. I've always thought about more power but then I would more likely kick the cars head in then crash it lol.
