Default New replacement Saff A pillar seals.

As you are aware trying to find OE A pillar seals for the Sapphire Cosworth is virtually impossible so there are a couple of places now selling new replacement ones. What are your thoughts on them? I have tried 2 lots and I found neither of them much good. They are to flimsy and just do not fit and seal properly.I have now repaired my original Ford ones and they will be going back on . When you compare them the original Ford ones had a metal extrusion with the rubber and felt attached and are very solid and also shaped to follow the contours of the bodywork. I did'nt want to name the suppliers in case others have fitted them with success.

My original ones ready to go back on

One of the new ones, already out of shape

Squashed out of shape

The seal sticks out and has gone out of shape.

I was watching these ages ago. Silly prices. Sadly owning a cossie is a rich mans game these days. I repaired mine with glue then sprayed them.

Arhhhh the B piller wind seal of doom.....I had an original ford new set many moons ago...even they look dog eared now.

I got an aftermarket b piller set last year, still to fit but they do look flimsy compared to the originals. Thinknis was classic car parts.

Hi Glenn, I do remember seeing them myself but a piss taking price!! I have cleaned up my original ones and repaired the damage so they will be going back on. If a supplier actually looks at the original ones and comes up with a replacement made in the same way it would be good but I guess it's all about low volume cost.

Hi Mark , I tried 2 different sets which are supposed to be a replacement but very disappointed with the quality and poor fit.I am convinced the people who make these parts never actually try to fit them on a Saff as they would see straight away they do not fit properly!!

We need a company who can make these seals, then make the door outer window seals and while there on they could make the door rubbing strips.

This is why I say its a rich man's game owning old cars cause your normal everyday enthusiasts can't afford these cars now which is a shame.

Are you talking about the A pillar seals like the ones in my post Lee? I have not come across any yet that are any good.

I have cleaned up and repaired my original ones and put them back on the car. They are much better than the so called new replacements which are just a waste of money.

Has anyone cut and pasted those outer weather strips for the doors as in where they usually bubble and split on the ends. Where it is straight use cut from another used one as a donor and cut the straight bit off and flush and use that part. On modern cars its not one piece but many. Just wandering how it would look and function?

Cheers

Found my replacement B post seals out. There terrible, Im surprised I didnt check them.
Had these from a place called Classic Car Seals on ebay. There not listing anything now so dout there about still as I've had them over a year.

I think this one image says it all, non of the holes line up and they definitely need the metal inserts to shape them.

Hi Mark, they look similar to the ones I bought, total waste of money, way to flimsy and as you say the holes are not in the right places. My old original ones made by Ford are so much better and after a good clean and some repair are back on my car.

Hi Richard, I've repaired my original ones now after seeing this.......a good clean, a very small amount of glue to hold the loose parts in place then a thin bead of black silo on the rear pressed through to fill the voids. A careful wipe down and they look ok.
