Focus 1.6 TDCi won't rev. above 2800 rpm and knocking
Hi,
I just got my hands on a 09' Focus Hatchback 1.6 TDCI, I was told the turbo was shot (bearing was all gone), I did not start the engine until the turbo was replaced and oil pan was cleaned, quite a lot of metal particles was found. All put toghter and engine was started, the engine is knocking badly and will not rev. above 2800 rpm, it seems like the knocking is from the valvetrain area. I've just started removing stuff to take a look at the camshafts. So what I'll find will be posted here. if anbody got some good advice I would be very thankfully. My first Ford though
ps: quite a lot of codes was active, but was cleared and did not come back after start up, engine has been running just a couple of minutes after new turbo, oil, filter.
The car has only 90K km, timing belt was replaced in May 20
Brgds.

Hi,
I am in need of some advice from some of you fiddling with this engines (1.6 TDCI) I have removed the cylinderhead, and there is unburned diesel on top of pistoncrown at cylinder No.4, the tip of the glowplug is allso black (soot) at this cylinder. With the cylinderhead removed I filled diesel oil in the intakeports at the cylinderhead, to check for leakage (and for cleaning all deposit from egr) one intakevalve is slightly leaking, (abt.one drop a minute) at cylinder No.4, a even smaller leakage from one intakevalve at cylinder No.2 as well. I allso took some measuremnt with piston in TDC, measured the hight from top of engine block (contactsurface for cylinderhead gasket) and to top of the piston crown, measured at two side of each piston, 1=against timing gear, 2=against transmission. + meens above block deck, - meens below block deck.
Cyl.No.1: 1:+11/100 mm, 2: -7/100 mm
Cyl.No.2: 1: +25/100 mm, 2: +38/100 mm
Cyl.No.3: 1: +70/100 mm, 2: +69/100 mm
Cyl.No.4: 1: +44/100 mm, 2: +34/100 mm
I don't know if this meen anything at all, but I think the value of the measurement was quite a big difference between each cylinder (??)
Can a failing fuel injector cause the knocking sound in the engine, or is it more likely that I got a rod knock?
Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Brgds.
