Default Loom part i.d

Can anyone i.d the part of the loom with the red arrow to it in the pic.

It seems to come from between the distributor, drops down and held in place with a p clip then disappears across the front of the sump and then up behind/accross the rack.

Abit vague i know but its got a little knick in the outer sleeve and wondered how deep it goes if i start messing with it and if i can get to the ends or an end to disconnect it.

Cheers folks.

Hi Mark , if the damage is only to the outer plastic covering it is probably nothing to worry about. A neat wrap around with insulating tape should fix it.

Evening Richard, I'm going to have a better look but before I started getting to involved I just wanted to be sure its either repairable but you what these things can be like.....I wanted to find each end.

I've got some loom tape and a roll of that split black plastic corrugated sruff so hopefully its nothing more than a split.

If the damage had cut the inner core of the wire Mark and you have identified it as the knock sensor it would have caused a noticeable fault. Has the wire been in contact with a sharp edge of something? If so repair it and maybe move it slightly so it does'nt rub on it again.

Easy fix then, much easier than having to run new wire. I recently fitted a new chassis earth kit on mine as the earth wire which goes on the battery tray was very rusty and corroded and I was getting intermittent shorting. the new kit included all the earth wires and since fitting it had no more problems.
Just had my Front drivers side Raven Leather Recaro repaired as the stitching was broken on one arm and there was also a small hole. At the same time I had a new Recaro side bolster insert fitted as the original one had broken up inside the seat. I managed to buy a Ford Granada Scorpio seat in matching raven leather and recycled some of it to use on my seat repair.I am very pleased with the job that the trimmer did , it is a perfect match and you cannot see where it has been done. The seat grips you better as well with the now firm again bolster. Hopefully get out to more shows next year which will be good!! What have you been up to with yours?

Not a great deal really. I'm busy with work and jobs around the new house so very little time for the car.

Been to a few shows which has been good.

Putting this question here as I know both of you have been on here for a while and are regular contributors. I have noticed over the last few years, less and less being posted on the forum. Is there somewhere else (perhaps a group on facebook) that everyone has gone to for their questions, or is there just less activity in the cosworth scene generally. Thanks in advance. David

Hi David, it would seem forums are a thing of the past for many nowadays.

I personally don't have Facebook, Twitter etc so do depend on the forums be it for my cosworth or my golf.

The rs owners club forum is also a ghostly place nowadays and its the same handful of people posting on there also like here.

The shows I have been to and meets the general chat is "oh so and so on Facebook" "did you see Instagram" which I get as times are moving on as it the tech people use.

I'm lucky that people within my rsoc group still use texts to let me know whats doing ut again they have a dedicated Facebook group page.

I have heard people say that sometimes though things get lost (posts) on Facebook etc due to the amount of people posting things up unlike a forum where its pretty easy to track down a subject.

I'd keep coming back, might take a few days for a reply but we get there eventually.

Thanks for your reply. I do feel it is a shame that the forum is no longer popular, and agree when you say it kept all the information together and easily searchable. I guess one positive is that the cars are pretty old now and there is a vast history of posts that are still searchable. If problems come up, they have probably happened to someone else in the past. If anyone else sees this and can suggest a particular Facebook group that is worth joining, I would be interested. Thanks again. David

Hi David, I have had a look on Facebook and the Cosworth section does not seem very busy to me. I am not sure why fellow Cosworth or any RS or classic Ford owners do not seem to enjoy posting up like they used to. Years back some of the threads attracted loads of replies and there was also plenty of banter.Sad times really!
