Default 12v to 5v

Anyone good with electronics. My dash requires 5v signals to operate the led warning lamps. Obviously the car is 12-14 volts when running. How can I drop that 12v signal down to 2/5 volts. I’m lead to believe there’s a way of doing it via diodes

Have you confirmed with AIM that they are not 12v tolerant ?

Would seem odd to have these features....and not suit normal wiring for such features. And a suitable resistor would drop it down.....for each circuit.

yep max voltage is 5v. There technical department did send me this picture so I think I can work with that. Ordered up some resistors. The problem they have is it’s an old dash that none of them there really have any experience with lol. I’m off next week to put the car together. I’ll get it sorted I just like to haves an idea before hand.

yeah I’ve seen a few. There’s just nothing out there that really shows how to physically wire in the road icons. It’s only the high beam indicators and factory oil warning I’m having an issue with. The ready is easy and links to my ecu

pointless ordering diodes when it is resistors you need.

Seems crazy for the units to require such nonsense though

lol I mean resistors not diodes. I’ve ordered what’s in the wiring diagram they sent. There answer is the road icons are an after thought. Sensors largely use a 5v signal from an ecu

They do, but often inputs can be tolerant of a higher voltage anyway even if they are not reading above 5v. In this instance they do not need to read, you're just triggering based on it being higher than 2v for example.

But if they say it needs resistors, I guess you need to do that shit.

They say if I put 12v into it I’ll melt something so not worth the risk. As stupid and frustrating it is all I can do is as they say and hope it works

Something like this will do the job.

There is probably some cheaper chinese junk on Ebay that would do the job, but it's not worth frying an expensive dash!

Not really much point when a 10p resistor will do it too. It's not actually carrying any load to operate the lights.
