1991 Ford Sierra Ghia Recaro upgrade install and reupholstery
I got a set of recaros last year post my back surgery in order to drive the Sierra in a more comfortable manner. Original Ghia seats just were not cutting it for me resulting in continuous back issues post-op.
Managed to get a pair of 3 door recaros which fitted the 5 door hatch pretty well and have come in handy for putting the surfboard inside the car on occasion.
I didn’t like the original worn looking Recaro grey fabric so I set about trying to find the original Apollo violet and black dotted interior to match my Ghia (without holding out much hope of finding new fabric).
Found the right fabric through Martrim in the Uk so managed to get 4 metres of the original Velour grey and the patterned violet dots.
I bought a new passenger side bolster for one of the seats 💺 and got a great upholsterer in Ireland 🇮🇪 to rebuild the seats 💺 while the car is getting its MT75 gearbox rebuilt through First Motion Transmission rebuilds in Baldock in the Uk 🇬🇧 which I will be collecting end of November.
pictures of the old fabric plus the rebuilt Ghia specific fabric. Not sure why Ford never did the recaros in fabric specific patterns to the Sierra Models rather than the drap grey or raven black material as usually found.
Original Recaro cloth material - worn/stretched. Rebuilt with Ghia Apollo fabric Added rear pouch to seat to match original Ghia spec seats. Double Stiches final choice Side view In-process rebuild with new rear pocket Removing the old fabric Newly redesigned head rest to match Ghia seat headrests Rear of reupholstered head rest One option to include piping which was rejected for double stitching instead
Hi Dave i got 4 metres of each bolt of fabric. So i've approx 2 m of the apollo left and 1.5 m of the grey velour.
I wanted to have more as spare fabric in case ever needed down the road.
I hope that helps?
You were lucky it was not Raven leather as I tried everywhere to get some for a front seat repair on my Recaro in my 2wd Saff. In the end I was very lucky and bought a Ford Scorpio raven leather front seat which had enough good leather for the repair on mine and was aged just right to blend in perfectly. I bought a brand new Recaro bolster which also got put in at the same time.
