I'm new to the forum and have just bought a 1988 XR3i in metallic grey. Car was last on the road in April 2001 but has been dry stored since then and has the added bonus that it was Ziebarted from new. Chassis rails, battery tray, under the fuse box and generally under the car is solid. There are a couple of patches that need attention to the body but I have purchased all the panels and will have the car resprayed (original colour) when these are fitted.
The issue I have is that the car is not running - it has two alarms/immobilisers fitted but the battery is, obviously, dead. I'm planning on picking up a battery tomorrow, fitting it and then I've been told to leave it for 30 mins before locking/unlocking the doors as this should reset the ECU? Any of this ring true? If this doesn't work, I'll get an auto electrician to remove the alarm systems and start from scratch.
I've also ordered full filter kits, fluids, spark plugs, and timing belt/water pump kits - anything else I'm missing?
Parts needed are the steering column cowls, drivers door and drivers seat release cable - advice on where to source these greatly appreciated!
I'm based in Rishton Lancs so if anyone is local and able to offer advice, that would be excellent.
